Is there anything wrong with feeding a baby yogurt with active cultures?

The baby yogurts do contain active cultures. The active cultures are very good for your baby. They help regulate the disgestive tract which is a very good thing if solid foods have been constipating her. However, I would skip the baby yogurts as they are full of sugar. Buy plain whole milk yogurt (Stoneyfield farm makes an organic one) and mix in a fruit puree to sweeten it. Your baby needs the fat, so make sure you are buying a whole milk yogurt.

I was reading all the baby yogurts and they all stared in bold letters pasteurized after culturing! so it seems that not having active cultures in babys yogurt is an important thing but then I was reading one of gerbers finger food packages (their yogurt melts) and they advertise largely on the front with active cultures!

so now I'm confused are active cultures good or bad for baby? I ask because if they're good then I'd just buy a much cheaper tub of dannon plain yogurt for her and mix it into her baby foods.

Please no just yes or no answers. only answer if you actually know. Explanations would be much appreciated :D

Thanks!

I don't think that pastuerizing the yogurt kills the active cultures. As long as the yogurt is made from whole full fat milk I would think it is fine. I know the Stoneyfield yogurt I get for my son has the cultures in it and its pasteurized.

Most doctors recommend that you wait for dairy until baby is about 1 year old.
I've never heard that the cultures are a problem, the soy yogurt has active culture and a little milk, because the cultures are milk-based.
I think the cultures are good for their little digestive systems, just like they are good for adults. But it all depends on how old your baby is.
Good luck!

Most yogurts have active cultures, since they are VERY healthful. But save your money regarding the "baby" yogurts!! It's best to buy plain whole milk yogurt, like the Dannon one you mentioned. Not only will you save money, but your baby won't be eating sweetened yogurt. No baby needs that extra sugar! :)
