Is There Any Point in Continuing Shrek?

I think this franchise is a zombie, myself. Shrek The Third... you know they're desperate when Shrek starts making wisecracks. Should it keep going? I heard there will be 3 more films, at least. What do you think?

Ugh. I thought the first Shrek was magnificent, the second one was passable (but not nearly as good), and I have'nt seen the third yet (though the reviews...are not promising:shrug: .)

If you're asking me, I'd say there was no point in making Shrek 2. But if you're asking Dreamworks, they still want to make money off of the Shrek franchise, and that's reason enough in Hollywood.

They're continuing it to make money, but if you want them to discontinue, feel free to give them $999, 999, 999, 999 a year and I'm sure they'll be happy to do as you ask.

There's no real point that I see. Or, at least, no real point to seeing Shrek 4 in theaters. I thought the first and second ones were good. Didn't care for the third one. The only thing that was really funny in the third one for me was how they were making fun of the famous fairy tales princesses. That's about it.

Only to make more money aside from that no. It should have stopped at 2 or at least have 3 be the prequel and ended it form there. I have no faith in American animation for the past 20 years its been all the about the money. I'd do better watching paint dry at this point.

I was under the impression that all forms of entertainment are there in order to gain money. Of course, there are some that are just there for money and others that put on a well written film and get money as a reward for that honest hard work.

Anyway, I saw the first Shrek film on TBS once. That was the only time I'm ever going to see the movie. It wasn't horrible by any means, but it really wasn't that good. Certainly not good enough for the amount of hype it gets or for a boat load of sequels. I never saw Shrek 2 or 3 and since I wasn't impressed with the first ones, I'm not planning on to. Besides, Shrek 3 sounded completely horrible. Of course, Dreamworks cares more about milking the franchise for all its worth and then some than putting out quality films.

Is it just me or is being an otaku who hates all sorts of American children's/family-geared non-action cartoons starting to become a trend on these very forums?

Anyways, there's no point in continuing the Shrek franchise, aside from generating lots of revenue. I wish DreamWorks Animation would come up with more original and innovative concepts that can be enjoyed in the same way as a Pixar film, but the Shrek films are kinda useful for weeding out any stupid-looking movies that appeals to youths and their families at the box office, so I think Shrek should still stay in the cinemas for a while.

Not caring for the Shrek sequels doesn't automatically make one a family-oriented non-action USAnimation hating otaku. That logic is somewhat flawed.

Never said that. I was responding to someone(Zechs) who said she herself had no faith in USAnimation as a whole, not just the Shrek movies, for the past 20 years.

I honestly really enjoyed the first two films, but I think that should have been it for the franchise.

The plots can only be stretched so far, but I don't think they'd make too much of a limit.

Even the holiday special was really pushing it.

The series has become redundant. It's become the very thing it parodied. It has none of the charm or talent of the original. The Academy Award nominated screenwriters are gone. The original director is gone.

What are you all talking about? We can't live without Shrek the 4th.It is essential to our very beings.

And if you believe that, you're either a nutbar or your life really does depend on the continuation of this movie.
