Is the End of the 2000s also the End of Anime on TV?

While I understand where you're coming from, an anime, regardless of the quality of its dub, is still an anime. Even though Pokemon has its share of edits, I wouldn't say its in the same kind of quality as dubs like Cardcaptors or some anime series that aired in the 80s. The changes that you were focusing on, like the names, would have happened regardless of who was in charge of the dub since Nintendo decides all of the names. It wouldn't have made sense to keep Hakura when her name is May in the games or Hikari since she's Dawn in the games. Though I think that we're just going around in circles, so I think that it would be for the best if we could agree to disagree and focus more on the specific topic.

I think that my brother saw Slayers on TV back in the 90's, but it was the subbed or raw version for some reason. Still, I see your point. Though, I'm not sure how likely it is for PPGZ to end up on Cartoon Network. It doesn't seem like the kind of show that they're interested in at the moment. I can see FMA: Brotherhood and Inuyasha: Final Act ending up on Adult Swim. One Piece on Disney XD would be cool, but I think it would be more helpful to the series if XD was available in more homes before something like that happens.

...which is what most people would have said about Tenchi and Sailor Moon before they were picked up, but those were massively successful.

I could see Adult Swim pick up Inuyasha - The Final Act and probably do successful with it and maybe pick up a few more series but that's all.

One of Disney XD's sponsors is The Pokemon Company and Viz owns the rights to the anime series in America.

Adding the fact that Viz is airing Naruto Shippuden on Disney XD... I could see it going there if it ever leaves CN

I agree with what Lucario said about edits. Most are due to less air time and more commercials. I also don't have a problem with paint or time edits. I find these comparison websites of a few shows, but most of the time and paint edits are so small, that I don't notice (Let alone most average people.).

I also respect your views on edits, but as long as the plot is pretty much the same, I don't see why it isn't anime. It's still drawn as anime, so I don't see the difference. I don't see anime completely dying, especially within the next year, but I think you'll see less and less. Pokemon will probably always have a channel to air on, because it's so popular. Most other anime will either be online, as someone else pointed out, or you might see some on DVD.

I forgot how much influence TPCI has with the anime for some reason. I was mainly thinking of Nintendo, which, as you pointed out, did eventually create TPCI. Thank you for pointing that out. I thought that the main reason they kept names like Ash was because Nintendo still approved those names, as well as the fact that it would be pretty late in the game to revert back to their original name. "Haruka" means spring, so "May" would also be a fitting name, even if it is pre-TPCT. Still, I see your point about how they've done good work with retaining the original Japanese flavor.
