The argument:
GAP's marketing of military jackets is military propaganda. By portraying the military jacket as a fashion item, it sends the message that joining the army is "cool" and "bad-ass".
However, in reality the military is not so glamorous.
I am not anti-military. I respect those who have joined the military and served their country. However, I do not support pro military PROPAGANDA. I find it deceptive. Propaganda does not address the sacrifices required to serve your country.
I worry that those who only join the military because they see it portrayed as "cool" may be committing themselves to something they did not think through. They may not have fully considered the fact that they may be sacrificing their lives or limbs for freedom.
Agree, or disagree? Provide a counter argument.
In response to Friday, while this sort of propaganda will not fully convince anyone with half a brain, it does have some sort of subconscious pull. It creates a positive association with the military, and therefore further encourages a fascination with and support of the military, which may ultimately move someone who was on the fence about joining to do so because there is an emotional tie to the military.
