Is it possible to have Christian faith unaffected by culture?

What does Christian faith look like when it is unaffected/influenced by one's culture? Weren't the writers of the Bible influenced by their own cultures? should we not take some parts of the Bible literally because they were written by a very different culture than our own(for instance, stoning sinners, etc.)
Furthermore, why doesn't God make the answers to these questions blatantly obvious to us so as not to cause confusion?
*I know this is a loaded question, sorry!*
Thanks for all the interesting answers so soon; fyi I am most interested in the perspective of perhaps a Christian sociologist who is literate in both theology and sociology(wish me luck with that :))
 
WE can see cultural differences between people from different parts of the world. Most of the practices are rooted in the religion and religious obligations of the regions concerned.
Jesus Christ came into the world sinners from every nation, tribe and creed.
In Christianity faith in God accepting Jesus as his/her Lord is the key to enter God,s kingdom. Any tribal practices or rituals are not necessary for salvation or for keeping the right to salvation. In the same manner, no custom or practise would take away his right to salvation unless it is against the will and pleasure of God Almighty.
The Japanese bow down to show his respect to his friend and neighbour. An Indian would hold his palms together and say 'namaste'. An English man shake his hand with his friend. An Arab has his own mannerism of kissing on the cheeks or on the forehead.
A Christian in a region may or may not keep adhering to the custom of a culture if he is sure that he is glorifying Lord almighty through the mannerism of his culture.
Our God is King of kings and Lord of lords.
 
yes, but unlikely, but Gods word is timeless, some parts had to do with civil law of the time of writing, but if you go back to the ten commandments, you will notice they are still applicable.
we are still bound by moral law
we will fail, and can be forgiven in Christ, but the law has always been a thing that convicts us, not saves us

our culture has the same types of problems of older cultures
 
The christian religious cult is a part of western culture regardless of it origins, teachings and dogma.
 
Parts of it, thankfully, are being thrown out. Like women playing handmaiden to their husbands. There's still lots that needs to be worked on.
 
God does not reside in time or ones culture, faith is what moves God, as long as culture does not take the place of that, not a problem, the jews even though some are christian messianic still practice jewish traditions[no alter sacrifices] the new testament supersedes the old, alot of the old was kind of hard to understand, but the jews were his called out people and they were few in number compared to the rest of the world and God held them to a higher standard than pagans, if the old testament does not put you in bondage or induce you to do something totally out of order, it is just as revelant, you have to be saved to understand the bible and not take it out of context. Pray to Christ to forgive you of your sins and then you will see spiritually a spirit edited book.
 
I appreciate questions like this. Our culture is based on faith and religion, so it is hard to have one without the other. What i mean is every aspect of what we do is a direct result of religious belief. for example, the man of the house is to provide for his family. Today, we put our children into preschool to prepare them for school which prepares them for college which has a direct affect on the kind of job they get, which goes hand-in-hand with how well they can provide for thier family. I thank god for faith in our culture because although it may not ever seem to hold true, we still base our lives around the principles that he has instilled in us, like providing for, protecting, and generally caring for ourselves and one another.
 
No. Religion is always subordinated to economic interests.

Thats why slavery lasted so long.
 
It is true that in ancient times the Jews did stone sinners.
They do not do that today.
Times change and people change. But God's Ways remain the same, as it says in the Bible.
The essentials remain the same. Our understanding and practice evolves, but the essentials are the same.

Yes espically the attitude to women and slaves was much diffrenet back them.
 
Although the culture was different, our Christian principles have remained the same. The Hebrew God thousands of years ago is our same God today and always will be. The Bible is concrete in its' stance.
