Is it normal for a psychologist to explain your behavior based on your ethnicity...

...or culture? I'm middle-eastern american. Born her but my parents are from the middle east. I told my psychologist yesturday that one of my problems or issues is how I deal with anger against someone. I tend to take revenge and/or never let things go. He told me this is most likely part of my middle eastern culture that "we don't forgive" etc... Is this correct? I mean generally he is right? However, it comes off a little racist or generalizing.

well on the face of it it is a generalization, but many people say things that in hindsight they probably wouldn't say/ sound stupid. But most of the time when people say things like this i would automatically interpret this as just a slip of the tongue and then move on, unless of course it happens excessively. In this case i normally forgive the person for their ignorance.

but simply, revenge is just another human emotion just like anger/ happiness etc. its is not common/ uncommon to any specific race enough to make a sweeping generalization about.
