Is it necessary to smolder my sub wires to the sub box? Also, which type of wire do

I use to connect the 2? I bought a 10" kicker subwoofer and a Xscorpion sub enclosure and I was wondering if it was necessary to smolder the wire running from the subwoofer to the connection port on the side of the sub box . Could I get away by just wrapping the wires around the nodes? Also, what is the best type of wire to connect the subwoofer to the sub box connection port? (sorry if I slander the jargon, hope you get my drift). Thanks
