My in-laws' native/first language is the same as mine but they like to speak in their ethnic language that I don't understand even when I'm around. They said so that their maids wouldn't understand what they're saying, but even when my husband talks with his mom on the phone and there are only the two of us in the room he prefers to speak that other language. Funny that when they, husband and his mom, visited their extended families from both his dad and his mom sides they used our national/native language. I thought they would all speak in the ethnic language. By the way, we are all of the same ethnicity, it's just that I was brought up speaking our national language instead of ethnic.
I have talked to him about how this makes me feel, but he/they still do it all the time. They think it's common and there's no problem with it.
What do you think?
