Is it illegal to chat with a minor against their parent's wishes?

I have a really good friend that I've known for almost 3 years who lives ins South Carolina. We originally met through a photo-sharing site and have never spoken on the phone, only emails, texting, and written letters. We started out as friends but it's become more of a romantic relationship. We've never discussed anything lewd, sexual or out-of-line and have been very careful to be above board with our relationship. Unfortunately, her parents don't approve of us being together and have told us to no longer be in contact with each other. After six months of no contact, she sent me a message wanting to connect again. Since July we've been sending notes and chatting infrequently. She's is 17 and I'm 21.

What I'm wondering is if I'm committing some sort of crime by contacting her against her parent's wishes?

The girl is a minor...a legal child...and as such, she is in the control of her parents. Her parents, not her, get to decide who her friends and acquaintances are...and if they decide that you, an adult, are a harmful influence on their child, they can get a restraining order to keep you (an adult) away from their minor child. As an adult, you do not have the right to have any kind of relationship with a minor child if the minor's parents object to it. I strongly suggest that you stop all contact with her until she turns 18. If you do not, there may be consequences to you AND to her (they could put her in boot camp). Good luck.
