Actually, having lived in Spain, I know that many [especially young] Spaniards love finding people with whom they can practice their English skills. Yes they are proud people, but I see that as a positive rather than a negative
I think the root of the problem comes because Spain has had an influx of English people who come to live there [mostly along the coastlines] because of the weather, culture, etc. Unfortunately it seems to be that a small yet visible percentage of these people do not want to learn Spanish or better integrate themselves into life in their host country. Think of it....how different is this from Americans or Britons who think immigrants should learn English and integrate themselves more into the society at large? Not much, really.
