Let's start with the beginning of Rap music. When Rap first began as a musical art form in the early 80's, it was actually ok. Then as we start moving into the late 80's, we start having violent and suggestive themes added to lyrics and music videos. When we hit the early 90's, Rap music is no longer music that symbolizes life in the "ghetto" or
"hood", but it actually starts glamorizing the life. By the time the late 90's rolls around, Rap is only about drugs, sex, getting wasted, pulling drive-bys, getting ho's, killing whitey, fu*king the system, gold chains, and metal teeth. I mean doesn't it point fingers as to where our priorities and values are when we start letting this deviant subculture into our classrooms and our television sets. Some of you may be thinking, "Boy, this question should have been asked a Decade ago", "You're about 2 decades late". But Seriously,
My question to you all is: Why have we let Rap taken over our children's lives? Letting our children believe that it's ok to call a woman a "Bit*h" or a "Ho". Making our children believe that it's ok to dress in grotesque fashions. Are we ok with this, or is the Silent Majority just a bunch of Wimps about this? I don't mean to sound like a Conservative Square here, but everywhere I turn around there's this violent, obnoxious, revolting culture. And though I live in NYC, where gangsta culture thrives, I can't stand it, and I want to know if this problem only exists in the major cities, or everywhere.
Lastly, think about this. When some people think about Hip Hop they think it just means listening to music. But let me tell you all something, this culture is the reason why we have so many Damn people incarcerated. Because every dude between 13 and 20 wants to be a "Gangsta", deal drugs, be violent, and be constantly violating the rules and ethics of society. Can we all just Stop the Politically Correct bullshit, and tell it like it is?
