I've been researching culture shock and seen some Web sites that say it happens over a few months, and others that say it happens over a few years.
What do you guys think? Is it short-term or long-term?
And what do you folks think about length of each phase for:
1. An American living in a non-American English-speaking country
2. An American living in a non-English-speaking western country
3. An American living in a country with no common cultural heritage (the Far East, Africa, a Pacific island, etc)
