I went to the Naval Academy graduation yesterday. Biden was the guest speaker.
Now, I know NOTHING about Biden. I was driving to the graduation thinking about the choice of Biden and wondering why exactly Obama wasn't doing it. Of course, if one looks at the Memorial Day media of Obama's weekend it doesn't appear he is doing any of the military academies.
I thought about it and decided it wasn't anything worthy of worrying about. I detest Obama and I don't think I could have given a speech by him a fair shake. At least with Biden I could have an open mind. There are advantages to be completely clueless about an individual.
And having heard his speech....
I am impressed. I am truly impressed.
I am kind of of the mindset that politicians are self serving assholes. What I expected was some asshole to get up on stage and drone on for 40 minutes about why we are lucky to have him and Obama in office and why supporting his pet projects would be a good thing.
What I (well *we*) got was a speech that was directed and aimed like a laser at those graduates. He was personable and a bit humorous. The vast majority of the speech was about the people that have sat in those seats before those graduates, the things they can hope to accomplish and (I was shocked to see this coming from the 'America Last' liberal side of the political spectrum) how the US Navy is the greatest naval force the world has ever seen.
I was very, very impressed. I now know nothing about the guy EXCEPT having seen him at the Naval Academy graduation. But he has earned good marks from me. If the guy can ever get himself unglued from Obama's ass I think I could actually consider him as a politician with something of an open mind.
