In this situation the best thing you can do is compare the two. but id be cautious of the wall mart wire, For that price there could be more plastic than copper, so you wont have the current capacity. however there may be no difference.

14 Gauge should measure as 14 Gauge if advertised, so if you find it isn't, then complain!! why should you get ripped off.

Some cable will be made from different size strands of inner conductor, and some companies will try and sell a really cheap version, just make sure the actual diameter of the copper is 14 gauge.

Also the plastic will have temperature tolerances, and chemical resistances, Check out tri-rated cable....

Here is a little example of the tri-rated cable, a 10mm diameter cable, (AWG 8) can take a max current of 79A and costs £1.04/meter.

Your AWG 14, is 1.5mm squared, and can take 24A max, and costs £25.01 per 100Meter reel.

thats good 105'c rated cable.

True 14 guage wire is 14 gauge wire but the fosgate wire will be better because it can handel more amp and send the current better.

i can buy 50 foot of 14 gauge rockford fosgate speaker wire for 45$. or i can buy 50 foot of 14 gauge walmart or ebay speaker wire for 15$. is there really a difference or am i just paying for the name? im running a high performance system in my car but i dont wanna buy more expensive wire if 14gauge wire is 14 gauge wire. thanks!

Dude seriously, wire is wire. If they are both truly the same size copper wire, you would NEVER hear a difference.

Fosgate buys wire from likely a similar company, slaps their name on it, and marks it up!
