Is a 6"x4" at 300 dpi image the same as a 6"x4" at 300 ppi image?

My printer tells me that all my image on my pdf file are at between 150 to 200 ppi, so the quality is not going to be good when the book come out. I thought 2 x ppi = 1 dpi?
