+ iPhone! What is so great about?

You have no idea what impact the Nano and Shuffle have had on the market, then? Apple didnt get into this to make one phone. Just like they dont make one computer or one Mp3 player! They got into this business because they believe it is full of incompetents who dont understand the customer and the time is ripe for technology to allow them to dominate this market. And by implication put themsleves in pole position for the evolution of computing towards mobile platforms.

Lets just say its not a coincidence Google is in with them on this. You will see more from these two.

If you want to quote free market principles, supply demand etc, then you might want to first go back to review your economics class notes. You do not have a free market if you only have one one supplier. That is called a....monopoly.

And monopoly is not known for producing a rich or satisfying result for consumers. Rather it produces stagnation, lack of choice and slows innovation. Most of all, it produces artifically high prices for the monopoly supplier - which I guess is why your friends at Apple - and Cinguar too - are interested in a monopoly over software on the phone.

Thanks for the failed attempt at providing econ lesson for me, though I'm sure that well....one of us learned something.

Anyway speaking more broadly, this Iphone is really driven by hype, but I think Apple will learn a lot from it, subsidiesed by the early fans boys, and will plough that back into a better generation 2 device that is more likely to be worth buying than this one.

There is no doubt that I'm a Nokia fan first and foremost but to decisevely determine that the iphone is not worth buying is rather pompous if you ask me. Perhaps for the first time, NA will have a handset exclusive to the States. We've suffered for years, missing out on such classics as the 8910 and 8910i..7650...etc.etc. I would imagine the ipod brand is as popular in parts of Europe as it is in the United States. That being said, I think there could be some jealousy out there. I'm not picking on you in particular but it seems that many posters outside of NA have chosen to rip the iphone without all of the information. Let's see some field tests from trusted reviewers and users and we can better determine it's worth but for now it's really an unknown. But we'll let you "over the pond boys" know what we think of it.

a) As an E50 owner myself I can tell you that nobody is "jealous" of a phone if you tell them it has only EDGE, when every 12 year old has a 3G phone. Really.

b) You seem to have no idea that the "iphone" has more critics than fans even in the US. And you might want to follow up your economics lesson with a geography lesson; there are more people outside North America than inside it. You think HoFo has only north American users? You're just sticking your hoof in mouth deeper and deeper. You should have quit after you flunked econ.

c) The phone while still unreleased, is not an "unknown". To the contrary Apple has chosen to seek the most possible publicity to tell us certain things about the phone, which are being critised. No 3G is a fact. No open 3rd party software is a fact. No VOIP is a fact. The pricing is a fact. Cingular 2 yr contract is a fact. Nobody made these things up. Dont pretend that the comments are based on rumor or speculation. They are not.

Very interesting!! This shows apple's 'Creativity' Law suit#2 on its way to apple??

Looking at LG's phone.. save for Send, End, and a handful of keys on the sides which is better than all touchscreen on apple's. I am not gonna call iPhone now

thats not quite true...
Maclaren did make a car (Maclaren F1) that almost no one can afford to buy. But they did make another one (Maclaren SLR) that some people can buy. But thats a different case. As for the phone. iPhone will be the same, if not cheaper, than n95. So under your theories, you are saying that the general public does not/will not buy n95 because of the price involved and they will go for the iphone because of the cheaper price. iPhone is quite a piece of technology, but i still pick n95 over iphone anytime XD

there were 3 razr's in the keynote lol... but hey if this scaling vector multi-touch thing actually works i'd say it really is 5 years ahead in software...because UIQ is the closest thing we have and it's a mess... well unless the prada lg phone and siemens-benq blackbox are based on the same tech
