Those are great icons, thanks for sharing.

I really love the look in his face. You could see just how amazed Chris was at getting to experience the wild first hand. It's an expression I've shared a time or two.

For Valentines Day my parents got me the soundtrack. Eddie is just amazing. His songs really bring out the best in the movie. For me if a movie doesn't have a good soundtrack I will normally not like the movie. I was really impressed with how well Vedder brought out the emotions in it.

Well the DVD has finally come out! I plan to get it later today. Anyone else planning to? I really want to get the 2 disk because of the special features.

Anyone else planning to get it?

I really didn't like this movie when I saw it. I really just didn't care about him at all so the ending didn't affect me. I thought he was rather selfish IMO...
 
I just watched this movie and it's one of the best I've seen in the last years. really amazing. everything about it was fantastic.
I'll have to buy the book.

it's such a moving story
 
It's definitely amazing that he was able to go on his own without support from his family and endured so long.. but it's so sad to think that he died 4 months later. :(
 
Well technically he did. He was a leather-tramp for two years but when he put himself in the wild truly that was only a time period of 4 months.

He did some amazing traveling though which is one of the many things I admire about him. I've done travels myself but not to that degree.

The fact that he immersed himself fully into the natural world is beyond incredible.
 
Okay well thankfully I got to see the movie today! It came out on Friday and I was afraid I wouldn't get the chance since my dad was supposed to be out fishing and he wanted to see it too. He came back early though.

Well me, my dad, and my mom went to see it at 11:50 today. I've gotta say that I really enjoyed seeing it on screen. It was the book with minor changes. Sean Penn did a great job in capturing the story of Christopher McCandless. I'm really glad it took him 13 years for this project because everything was just perfect.

The movie made me realize even more just how much I admire Chris. Sure some of his methods were unsound but he did what only some of us dream of (myself being one of them): he dissed out the fantasy of leaving everything behind to join nature. It became a reality for him despite the consequences. Chris is no crazy for me, he is if anything a hero and a guy that I now truly respect.

Definately recommend seeing this movie.
 
I just saw this movie a couple days ago, It is AWESOME!
And agreed, a great soundtrack!

In the OP, I thought he lasted longer in the wild then 4 months!

Yeah the soundtrack is really good. Eddie Vedder did an excellent job.

I've always thought a good soundtrack makes an even better movie and that certainly was the case here. The music was powerful enough to make the overall story very emotional even though the story can stand alone in emotion without a soundtrack.

Definately one of my favorite movies as well as the book. When I heard there was a movie about it coming out I knew I had to read the book. I'm glad I did because it's the best. Probably one of my favorite human trial survival stories ever despite that Alex Supertramp died.
 
Yep. And it's a pretty remarkable one at that.

That fact alone makes it all the more heartbreaking.

Aw, I missed Oprah :( I want to see that segment.

I didn't read this book, though I have heard many people talk about it. Then I was watching Oprah the other night and she was interviewing Sean Penn and she gave away the ending! I was so mad at her. But I still want to see it.
 
omggg, saw Sean Penn and Emile Hirsch on Oprah(hahaha) made me wanna see this movie sooooo bad!!! I wanna pick up the book as well, sounds really good!!!
 
Loved this film. It is one of those movies that you never forget, the story is too powerful to be forgotten. :cool: The ending is so damn sad.
