I didn't like this movie like I thought I would. I saw it because of Emile Hirsch though...

Seriously, this was my favorite movie of 2007. I was heartbroken that the Oscars ignored it for the most part (except for Hall Holbrook, who was heartbreakingly fantastic in the film, but Sean, Emile and Catherine all deserved nods, as did Eddie's music for the film).

The ending of this film seriously broke me. It was so well done. I cried for about 10 minutes straight after the movie was over (I had to sit in the theater, just waiting for the tears to stop). Sean really captured his final moment beautifully.

And I agree about the soundtrack. Eddie did a phenomenal job making the soundtrack such an integral part of the movie. It is partly what made the movie so emotional for me.

And Emile, well his performance was just beyond words. The dedication he put into the role blows my mind. Such a young talent.

The film, even though it ends so heartbreaking, is really truly inspiring which is such a testament to Chris' life and how he would of wanted to be remembered. He was an extraordinary human being and I'm so happy the film did his life justice.

Seriously, for me, the film is a masterpiece.

Nope. I don't live in California or anywhere near it. It would be nice if I did. Hopefully I can hold off for a while. It's only a few more weeks.

Okay this is a total drag. The only places this movie is showing is in LA & New York

Have to wait until October 19th.

This is so not fair, I'm dying to see this movie!!!!

:bawl: This movie is so good and sad. I really have words and I respect Chris McCandless and his family so much.

And thank you Sean Penn for being so dediciated!

Oscar buzz, really! That's great. I've always liked Hirsch's work so it's about time.

And yeah, these films do generate a lot of attention.

That's so cool that it's getting so much publicity but I still think it's unfair that they aren't showing it to the rest of the world :(

There was an article about it in Entertainment Magaine and they rated the movie an A-. Entertainment is hard critic so it's amazing that the movie got that good of a rating.

There are Oscar Buzz for Hirsch's performance... I think these kind of films are the type that would garner attention :)

Edit: Spelled Hirsch's name correctly.

Glad you liked it.

The ending is what gets me; when it transferes from Emile to the real picture of Chris. Emile was definately the right actor to portray such an American Icon (he is to me anyways).

My dad and I watched the special features yesterday. I am really glad it took 10 years to make this film. Sean Penn was the right man for the job. He really stayed true to Chris McCandless. And then to actually follow in McCandless' footsteps by going and filming in the actual locations was just incredible. They could've easily done this on some Hollywood lot but they didn't. Penn went to the extreme! It was good that they re-made the bus though. Penn said they didn't want to use the real one as a way of honoring his parents and Chris.

Oh man, and then Penn got the real parents to be consultants on the movie! Ever since reading the book I had always wondered what the parents looked like. It was great to see them. As well as some of the real people that McCandless met on his journey.

Even though there are only 2 features, plus the theatrical trailer, it is certainly worth it!

I just watched this and... I just... sobbed. :sigh: Emile was so, so haunting and it was seriously amazing.

"Happiness only real when shared." Guh.

I'm dieing to see it too.

Not sure if anyone caught it, but Sean Penn and Emile were on Oprah this past week. Made me even more excited for the movie.

I don't think McCandless was out of his mind at all. Sure some of his methods might seem a little unsound but this guy does seem "normal". To me he just seems like a guy who did what he loved: an ordinary life wasn't enough and I understand that passion. It's a fierce one that I am very familiar with.

If anything, to me McCandless is a hero.

what a tough character, indeed... i wonder if the person is insane or what... is he out of his mind?

Sure thing!

I had heard about it a while back and me being of a nature/explorer background, it was definately a movie that caught my attention (which not many movies do now-a-days)

I picked up the book on Monday and it truely is an incredible story. I'm now looking forward to the movie even more.
