Interesting predicament. Again.

Well, for the past while every things actually been going great! Or as great as it could, but recently my right leg has been starting to give me hell during our practices for football. It isn't much at first, but as I start getting into practice, usually twenty to thirty minutes in when we start Position Warm-ups. (I go with the lineman and we just go through the motions of hitting each other properly and safely, and making sure we rap up our arms and straighten our backs out right.) Well, for the past week the inside of my lower right leg, just off of the shin, has been feeling like a damn nail was in my leg. I could just shake it off and keep going but it's been getting worse.

Before you comment, if your not a huge football buff, a linemen's legs are one of his most important features. You can be 270 pounds of muscle, and I will still kick your ass all day on the line if I use perfect technique with leg placement and steps. Proven fact by ANY coach in America you ask who is worth his weight.

Well anyways, this is where the question comes in. As you all probably know I am young and inexperienced in life, so I ask you. If in, or ever where in my position, what would you do? The pain is getting worse and I am clueless to what it is. Some of my teammates have said I have been giving a small limp between drills, but I guess the coaches don't notice (or care.) I can't see the team physician until a month and a half down the road to do them not actually being here, and right now I do not have the insurance to cover a bogus trip to the hospital so I'm not really keen on that approach straight up, but I may half to I guess. Thanks for your time.

The rest of the players on the field? Shit naw they don't need legs!

Seriously though, get checked out by a doctor. IF IT TURNS OUT TO BE SOMETHING SERIOUS THAT THEY COULD HAVE DONE SOMETHING FOR IF THEY HAD CAUGHT IT SOON ENOUGH, YOU WILL NEVER FORGIVE YOURSELF if you wait too long to get it checked out.

Shell out the dough and have it looked at. What's a few hundred bucks vs. potentially being crippled? Think about it.

270 pounds of muscled athleticism would fucking rape you now matter what technique you use. I played college football and a year of Arena. Technique will only get you so far. Ability from genetics sets most apart in the higher levels. I mean obviously legs are important to anyone playing football... I mean they are pretty high on the list to you know - run, move, etc.

That aside - you might have shin splints which can be quite painful. If the pain is that bad, I would honestly seek medical help and get it x-rayed/ checked out. There are lots of things that would help us out here. For instance, does it ache without use? Does it hurt when standing or just running? Etc.. more information about the general pain please. Also, your team should cover medical expenses especially if the pain started while playing. Your team must have a trainer or some sort of medical staff/ personal around. Even if your team doctor is not around, they still should have some form of tending to the injured players and what not. I am assuming you are in high school or junior high at the very least.

It never hurts to get checked out. Make an emergency room visit if you must, and pay for it later down the line. They're not THAT expensive. I'm not sure if this depends on where you live but you shouldn't be penalized for not paying right away. Even if it's years later.

Check it out. Before you regret it.

As everyone said above, go to a doctor to get checked.
An example I'm suffering: I got a second degree burn on my right foot. I thought it wasn't that bad and didnt want to pay either. It got infected and it's really fucked up now, it hurts a lot and lots of water is pouring from it, pretty disgusting actually.

I went to the doctor yesterday and she said something that meant "Your foot is fucked up, you are a moronic idiot, it will be bad for the rest of the month" She also added that it could develop into necrosis if I dont treat it medically right.

Go get checked, it's worth the money. You'll surely get an ecography or something.

Uh, no. The coaches will not recommend going to the doctor, because officially they can't. Do to lawfully, they are not experts at health or medicine they can't, just the physicians who are back in like two days (which is pointless to me because I'm driving me and my brother up to Cheyenne). And alright, sorry for the lack of information. Yes, I am in High School football. It doesn't hurt when I just normally walk around, but after about five minutes of just mild jogging the pain will start to show up. Sitting, of course it doesn't hurt.

Oh, and for the record. Proper Technique can dominate said 270 Sculpted lineman. Last game last season, I had to fill in for Offensive Guard, normally I just do Defensive End, or if they need one Tackle, but the Defensive guy was as listed the giant who surprisingly wasn't made of fat. I used everything I knew on technique and he didn't touch the Quarterback once that night. That doesn't mean he didn't push me around to all hell, and maybe even pancaked me a time or two, but that didn't matter because he was still five yards away from the QB at all times. And the "legs are most important" thing was more directed towards footwork, and how it isn't stereotypically about just being freaking huge. ;)

Oh, but yes of course, I'm redirecting some money now and I'm going to make an appointment over in Cheyeene at a full physicians place that I went to before.

Being freakishly huge is the first requirement for advancing to the higher levels of the sport. Take any D1 defensive end or professional defensive end and technique alone is not going to dominate him or keep him from the quarterback. Genetics and size must be there as well. You are young and ignorant and only play high school football, so I must forgive you.

At any rate - good luck with the leg and upcoming season.

Almost sounds to me like shin splints. Our coach always recommended ice and tape. I have seen quite a few "Got to the Doctor" lines in here. I would agree. If not a regular doc go to the ER or Emergicare, but get it checked or it will get worse.
Technique don't do you SHIT when your ass is on the sidelines on crutches watching.

It sounds liek you might have a torn meniscus. I did have that. if it's bad, you may need surgery, but there are things you can do to try to make it easier if it's not too bad. You should go to your doctor. You dont' need a hospital for this. Your doctor may recommend you get an MRI for it (x-rays don't see cartilage, muscle, or ligaments very well) so s/he can see if you do need any surgery or something less invasive. It is important that you do get it looked at. If it is a torn meniscus, it isn't going to get any better without treatment. If it turns out to be a sprained ligament or a torn ligament. ice and a variety of massages and exercises should be good until it's healed.

Please get it looked at. It sounds like you are at least getting it looked at soon. GOOD!

Does "Do to lawfully" mean the same thing as "Due to the fact that it is unlawful." Of Due to legality? I am not asking to be a grammar Nazi but I really don't understand what "Do to lawfully" means. Plus it doesn't make sense because as a coach wouldn't your health on the field and a potential injury be something he would be concerned about?

You said the docs are back in two days which is pointless to you because you are going to be gone, are they only going to be there while you are in Cheyenne? Because if so, go to an emergency room. As long as you make payments, like 10 dollars a month they can't put it in collections.

Sorry, I meant do to the law they cannot. Didn't mean to create confusion, and I just ended up scheduling an appointment at a place in Cheyeene. Nice guy who worked there, anyways he said it's nothing tape won't fix, but to be careful. If I keep it unsupported then it may get fucked later on. Oh, and Bauber. I do believe your experience in football, but I know plenty of friends who moved on to big collages and start on the D-Line without being massive. However, I never seen a smaller O-Lineman.
