Indiana Jones IV

It's funny how people's opinions can vary so much. I've just come back from seeing it and have never been so disappointed in a film in my life. It was even worse than the last Pirates of the Caribbean film. I came on here expecting everybody to be saying how bad it was, but instead the general opinion seems to be that it was good

It's currently at 7.7 on IMDB so it looks like I'm in the minority, but I truly didn't like anything about it. From the pointless hot rod race and fridge incident to the gophers and the monkeys it seemed like it was a parody. It was just too over the top all the way through. The CGI was pretty bad in places as well, particularly during the sword fight.

The whole scifi ending was the last straw for me. A truly awful film. :(

Thanks for that. To be honest, It has'nt got the WOW factor I was expecting after 20 years, but saying that I dont judge films on the trailer.

There was a negative buzz before it was screened (mostly thanks to the mainstream press picking up on some anonymous berk on AICN), but at 80% fresh on Rottentomatoes, it's getting a pretty high rating from the actual professional critics.

Plus, overacting is what Indy Jones has always been about. ;)

IMHO all 3 films are excellent. Temple of Doom was the one I enjoyed most when I saw them at the cinema, but in retrospect I'd say that the first was best, TOD next and Last Crusade by far the weakest. Looking forward to the 4th - I'm sure it will be good.

I have to agree. The Forbidden Kingdom is a very good film. I watched it on Tuesday, and then went to see Indy on Thursday.

For me the 4th Indy movie was a checklist. It just felt like Lucas and Spielberg sat down and went through ticking boxes.

Cute animals - check
Lost Tribe - check
Insects - check
Car Chase - check
CGI - check (but we will tell them that there isnt that much)
Plane flying with maps montage - check

Throw them all together and string it along with a poor plot involving hidden burial chambers and
Aliens

Plot holes - nah, they wont realise there are any until after they have paid their money, and even then ....... who cares.

So, Indy 5 ....... anyone for the Lost City of Atlantis !

But those things don't involve massive overblown CG sequences, and they weren't the be all-end all of the film. Regardless of that, David Koepp's script was utterly crap. Why the hell didn't Spielberg tell him to f**k off and write some proper character stuff?? Before you say 'it's Indy, you don't need character stuff' just check Last Crusade again and you'll find how much is in there. Even in Temple of Doom.

Why bring in Shia LaBeouf, who I'll stress again did a great job, as Indy's son (not a spoiler, it's beyond obvious) and then you get to the climax and there's zero interaction between them. Indy's motivation to get the Grail at the end of Last Crusade was to use it to save his father who was shot by Donovan. So, in Crystal Skull, what's his motivation to return the skull to the temple...? 'because the skull told me to' or whatever the line is!! Pathetic writing.

You can't put the blame solely on George Lucas. I think his story for the Star Wars prequels was good, except he's not the best screenwriter so he should have let others write them. His story for Skull is OK, but totally butchered by Koepp's screenplay. It seems to me Spielberg wouldn't do it without Koepp's involvement (he already worked with him on Jurassic Park and the dismal War of the WorlRAB). It's INDIANA JONES!! Get the best writer possible!!! Sadly Jeffrey Boam, who wrote Last Crusade, died in 2000 or else they might have gone for him. But what about Lawrence Kasdan who wrote Raiders of the Lost Ark???

It was very obvious that the Hurt role was meant to have been played by Sean Connery & they just papered over the cracks in the script when he refused to return.

Karen Allen was also criminally wasted.

Other than that Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is a decent enough time waster.

On a par with The Last Crusade & certainly better than Temple of Doom.

I think episode 1 is the best of the prequel trilogy. At least it feels like a Star Wars film and has SOME good performances and action (the lightsaber fight with Darth Maul is still incredible). As for Indiana Jones, we just have to pray Lucas can get some of his sanity back after the mess that was Revenge of the Sith.

How any of you can even tolerate this film let alone like it is beyond me. This is possibly the worst film I have ever seen, and if it isnt the worst ever, its certainly the worst in the last 5 years. It's a disgrace to movies everywhere, let alone the Indy franchise.

Surviving a nuclear blast by hiding in a ****ing fridge? Give me a break....and then they went and murdered it with that pathetic marriage ending.

What. a. joke.

I have just caught up with the trailer and am looking forward to the cinema release. I still would like to findout if ForRAB wife is still due to play the part of the whip :D.

do you recommend any good links to check out once I have seen the film: I have been avoiding them like the plague despite being genuinely curious at what went on to get this to the screen(I remember reading about the possibility 15years ago in Empire magazine)
