Indiana Jones...Crystal Skull

I've just finished watching Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
What a load of crap !
Not enough traps
Not enough puzzles.
His annoying son
Using a snake as a rope ??
Too much CGI
Aliens ! WTF ??
I thought The Last Crusade was bad enough, but THIS ??

I learnt from Temple that if you want to survive a plane crash over a mountain range sit in a barely inflated dingy. There are many life lessons that can be learned from Indy-physics. ;)

It was a bit lacklustre, but wasn't as bad as people made out. I suspect a lot of it was due to overhype and exaggerated expectations based on Raiders of the Lost Ark and Last Crusade - most people seem to excuse Temple Of Doom which Crystal Skull was actually better than.

Temple Of Doom is much, much, much better than Crystal Skull. For starters it doesn't have that class A moron, Shia LaBueoaufwhatever!

I'm with Aneechik, it's not THAT bad compared to the way some have gone on about it, like it's the worst film to come out in a long time...

It's not up there with the likes of Crusade, but I still enjoyed it, fun movie.

Aliens isn't a stretch considering what else has appeared in the films...

I heard that Harrison Ford once said that he turned down loaRAB of scripts for the 4th Indy as they were no good. Just how carp were they then, as he accepted this rubbish.

Youre right, it was that; but that in itself is a reflection of how poor it was. This was an Indiana Jones movie, INDIANA JONES!!!!

Prior to this film I would never have thought the name Indiana Jones & the descrption "throwaway popcorn hokum" could be used in the same sentence. When I think of throwaway pocorn hockum I think Independence Day, Godzilla, The Fast & The Furious and other such poo.

There is no way at all , that Skull can be compared to any of the first three, and I cant believe someone thinks it is better than Temple of Doom.
I was looking foreward to this as much as anything in years ,and really wanted it to be good.
Sadly it was a huge disappointment.
Every thing was just so bad..........far too much tedious exposition, annoying performances from Winstone and Hurt.......ridiculous overblown special effects ,none of the magic and excitement of the anothers.
The list is as long as your arm.

It has Kate Capshaw though who is just about the most annoying Indy Character ever.

Agree. If this had been a Mummy movie or the latest Emmerich disaster flick then you would have not minded as you would have got exactly what you would have expected but me personally expect a little more from an Indy movie.

My opinion of the film hasn't changed, I think the first half is actually pretty damn good, Ford is still brilliant as Indy, love the switch to 50's setting, love the cafe scene moving into the bike chase, that's first class Indy right there, I even like the nuke in the fridge scene :D

The second half on the other hand is just horrible, the film descenRAB into one ridiculous setpiece after another, it really is quite bad.

I would rather watch National Treasure.

I wonder if people said the same with Temple of Doom and the jumping out of a plane with a rubber dingy scene.

First half is great, the bike chase scene is classic Indy. Second half personally I feel it just goes way over the top and loses the plot.

There's been plenty of talk about the film on here, if you read about it it's clear Lucas and Spielberg are on different planets when it comes to what they want from a movie and it's also clear Lucas got his way and so we got the idiotic second half of the movie.

you can easily find this interview with Lucas himself, it's quite clear the guy is a fat asshole who has no idea what the fans want, he said himself Spielberg wanted the movie more old school while lucas wanted to take it to a whole new level, nice whole new level you ewok loving cockstain

The National Treasure movies knock spots off Crystal Skull.. We wait..what..15 years or so for a new Indy film and that's the best they could do?

Too much cgi in place of acting on proper sets..

Way too much forced humour..

Too much Lucas influence as well..

All that amounts to a truly terrible film that left me almost as stupified at it's awfulness as when i saw Transformers 2..

At least Doom has the kudos of being the 'Empire' of Indy movies in that it's a dark film..

Crystal Skull is more the 'holiday special'..

It's worth noting that Spielberg never wanted to make Crystal Skull. He KNOWS he's not that director of the '80s anymore, AND he never agreed with Lucas about the story idea. It's obvious that Spielberg only did it for the fans and only after his stalwart David Koepp had the final word on the script.

Who knows how much of the final movie he actually directed anyway. Lucas was there all the bloody time, it wouldn't surprise me if much of it was under his direction (i.e. crap direction). CGI monkeys that help out and bugs?? John Hurt being given an embarrassment of a character?? The script being terrible?? Too many people there at the end?? Aliens plot going nowhere?? The action too safe and CGI??

The bike chase through the university was pretty good, and Shia LaBeouf did a great job IMO coming across as believable. The scenes with him and just Harrison Ford showed how good the movie could have been (though if it had just been those two it would have been too close to Last Crusade with Sean Connery).

To be honest I completely agree. I think the sense of fun has been knocked out of movie goers these days.

To me, none of the Raiders sequels were as good, but it didn't stop me enjoying them. Raiders might just be the most perfect action adventure film ever made, so whatever came next was never going to be as good. That said, they all had they're own sense of fun and style, and I still loved them.

Crystal Skull is a brilliant Indy film to me. I absolutely loved the change of vibe from 30's to 50's. I thought it was really reflected well in the tone and the look of the film, making the alien angle spot on. And of course Indy would survive a nuclear explosion in a fridge!

The script was still full of fun (I loved the whole "you were never this interesting" discussion with a loony John Hurt), and Shia was probably the best companion since Karen Allen in the original (who admittedly, does little in this).

I seriously loved it, but then I never grew out of my awe of Jones and Spielberg even in my thirties. It's not a popular opinion, but I'm not a popular guy dammit! :D

i think my main problem was the amount of CGI, especially after spielberg said they were going back to basics and having proper stunts. hmmm...

the reason the first 3 are so good is the artistry in the stunts i think, you can watch them again and again

this film is just soulless

and yes, the fridge, monkeys and prairie dogs belong in another film. the indy films have obviously always been fantastical, but they're never been stupid, which this certainly was.

and how dare they turn such a great female character as marion into a whimpering idiot??

Though spielberg isn't totally blameless (afterall it's not like he hasn't added enough of his own naff moments in films) this is a quote from Lucas himself, it's fairly obvious that him and Spielberg aren't on the same page when making these movies, we all know what Lucas's idea of pushing it to a whole new level is
