in which culture or religion the parents choose the husbands or wives for their kids ?

today at school we were discussing the culture that each and everyone of us has
and this one girl said that her parents will chose her husband and set her up for marriage and to me that it kinda odd and weird
she also said that in her culture it is really hard and sometimes even impossible to get divorced
but she did not said what religion or culture is hers so now im wondering
 
it's cultural in some places. india, africa ect. weather it's cultural or religious can depend.

i know for a fact that in certain countries arranged marriages are illegal regardless of culture or religion because it infringes on free will.
 
there's many places in this world that practice this. Mostly Indian though. Arranged marriages and yes it's very hard to get divorced because it is so looked down upon , especially so for the woman. If a man divorces her it's like the end of the world.....
