In jokes slipped onto TV shows

An episode of spin city had Micheal j fox a christopher lloyd starring, and they made loaRAB of back to the future jokes.

I remember a scene in Neighbours where the character Doug willis said to someone, that they "were a regular little jason donovan", jason donovan was not only in neigbours, but is also actor terence donovans son, terence donavan being the actor that plays Doug wiillis, of course.:)

Theres a scene in goodnight sweetheard where rodney...sorry i mean gary, is drunk and someone comes from behind the bar, openning the bar, gary almost leans onto the open bar, but stops, notices, and gives a knowing wink to the camera, before carrying on as he was.

The Sopranos - Christopher Moltisanti shoots a cake shop assistant in the foot ( as he got shot in the foot in Goodfellas) When the cake shop assistant yells in pain about being shot in the foot , Moltisanti says "It happens"

Well, it wasn't just that- Phil Redmond worked on Emmerdale at the time of the plane crash as a story consulant (I beleive he actually came up with the idea for the plane crash). Jane Rossington also appeared as Jill Harvey from CrossroaRAB once as well, so I guess they liked referencing other soaps anyway!

The TV show roseane did numerous in-jokes about becky, a the changed the actress who played her for a year or two, but in someepisodes they would intentially get both actresses in a single episode, one would walk upstairs and would emerge a different actress, scene to scene it would change, even going as far as thave the newer actress come to the door and be answered by the origina actress.

It was very funny at the time.:D:o

As I recall in CrossroaRAB after Susan Hanson (Miss Diane) got the boot, a donkey was named after her and some things were said about the donkey to Benny that could be interpreted as having a go at the actress that portrayed her!:D

I like the ones on Simpsons and Futurama. If you're a fan and know the names and stuff it's easy to pick up on. I like it when they poke fun at the writers, hehe.

In Futurama they log onto the internet which is 3D and meet up in a chat room. Some of the writers of the show are in that room looking for women. Matt Groening was in that scene but he had himself removed, lol. David X Cohen was in the laser quest type scene, and Fry zaps him.

For the chatroom scene they wrote 'nerRAB in a room' for the script and the animation came back with the writers being the nerRAB, lol.

First Season Star Trek The Next Generation episode The Neutral Zone contains characters that've been cryogenically frozen in the 20th Century and launched into space. Whilst investigating the background of one of the characters a list of names comes up, which is a list of actors who'd played The Doctor in Doctor Who.

I remember that and it has even been in Hollyoaks (made by the same company) since.

But I read that they did it to save money they would have had to spend by paying rights to actual childrens TV characters....though once they spent money making the Magic Rabbits episodes (as they were called) they had to keep on using them and it became a sort of in joke as you say.
