they do have a duty to protect the public...
but im not sure what we should expect them to do. BP literally employs the smartest people in the world when it comes to this matter. the government should step in and make sure the incentives at this point are aligned with the best interests of the public/environment....but beyond that, the gov cant do much, nor should we expect them to
im really disgousted how helpless and enraged the public has become

Yea, the Coast Guard is a bunch of politicians. NOAA, they are politicians, The Department of the interior, the Energy department, they are all politicians, so is the army army corps of engineers
who do you reckon it should be? The president? A cabinet member? A head of one of the many departments involved? A non-governmental appointee to a special committee?
Is there someone but he/she just hasn't been made known specifically to the public?
They have been....on two of them, incase one misses the mark. These started before you heard about any containment domes or top kills. Last I saw they were over 10k feet down aiming for 18k.
