I'm Giving Up On Nokia Until September!

I'm on Tmobile. just bought the N73, happily paid $460 after tax on nokiausa.com. who cares if it doesn't have 3g? tmobile is slow as molasses in getting any 3g implementation out, and even if it's out, i'm not parting with my $2.99 300 txt + unlimited data plan to pay $20 for 3g.
you'll find the iPhone the cool toy on the block, but probably will be lacking the regular s60 featureset you've enjoyed.

Here's my $.02.

I have to first of all agree that September is probably a good time to wait, specifically if you don't already have a newer device. I think CTIA will see some tempting announcements, plus it's been almost a year since they started their specialized design center in Cali. If I hadn't gotten the chance to get the N75, I would still happily have my N73.

HOWEVER

The first key to the whole US 3G thing is sadly Qualcomm. That argument will end on April 9th, one way or the other. That's a fact. Second, I think that one of T-mobile's 3G launch devices will be a Nokia. They used Nokia for their UMA trials and are using Nokia for all their 3G backend. Personally, if you head over to my blog, I'm calling for the first T-Mobile US 3G Nokia to land at CTIA. We'll see.

Anyways, I half agree with you, but I don't think anything else can compare, currently. The blackjack is the closest runner up, I had it for a few weeks and dropped it. It was good, but WinBlows killed it for me.

Also notice that Samsung and LG have a few Symbian S60 devices rolling out, which should spice up the competition a bit.

a lot of you guys get mad at someone who wants to buy a phone from a different company other than nokia, but why? i don't get it. surely nokia's are extremely advanced in comparison to almost any other phone on the market, but you have to pay a premium for them. if you're content with doing that then fine. personally, i am, as many of you guys are, and like the fact that i don't have the same exact phone as everyone else. however, i don't really get why people rip the iphone so badly. i think it is going to be a nice phone, probably the best u.s phone that has come out thus far. sure you can compare specs and all that, 2mp vs. 5mp. but as you all know it's not just a mp race and a 2mp can produce very nice pictures as does the se w810i...

secondly, we should all be thanking jobs for bringing out a technonlogically advanced phone(for the u.s) to open people's eyes. i only see the iphone as a positive. at the very least it will undoubtedly open peoples eyes to bigger and better phones. once they use the iphone, theyr'e not going to want to go back to a razr or blackjack or whatever. hopefully, this causes a demand for higher end phones, and maybe nokia and everyone else will start giving a damn about the u.s. market. lastly, i just want to say that apple has never been about being revolutionary but taking things and making them work better than the competition. while they may not be making anything groundbreaking, i guarantee every application in that phone will work great and be very easy to use. one other thing: it will only cost 600 without a new contract or upgrade. so yes if you buy it outright it will be expensive, but it's not as bad as everyone's making it out to be, bc there will be rebates on the phone.

i apologize about the long rant, i just don't get why people pick on the iphone so badly..i only think the outcome will be positive in the end. so please don't think i'm dissing nokia, or have this love affair with the iphone, bc that is not the case. i just got myself an n80ie and i absolutely love it. i am enamored by s60 and all the things that i had no idea you could do with it. it's going to take me a month to figure out!!! it's jaw dropping. i just hope we will get some u.s lovin...

I agree with u, i think the issue with the iphone is that its revolutionary to the cellphone indusrty which bothers people more so, hey if i wanted a phone for music and video with 4gb and dont care about adding 3rd party applications ide get the iphone also, just not for me for that price ide go with the n95.

I will agree with the OP and say that i'm definitely willing to wait until september because the big N has not excited me... yeah, N95 is nice, but like many people have already said, i have the N73 and i'm not sure i really wanna pay that much for the upgrade to the N95.

i have ALWAYS blamed mainstream American consumers for the lack of advance in technology in many areas, not just wireless/cellular technology. Sony pulled its PDA's from the U.S.A. markets a couple years ago because they were tired of their call centers getting bombarded with calls asking questions that were answered with a simple flip of the manual. Us hofoers, while we are many, make up a small percentage of the overall population... and that sucks.

hopefully, after that April date, things will be clearer, but i'll just have to keep my "wait-n-see" attitude right now... and T-Mo did use Samsungs for the UMA tests also. Hopefully the Nokias worked better than the Samsungs did.

apple always puts forth good ideas... they just limit the possibilities at the beginning. just imagine what the world would be like today if apple kept the ipod as a mac only interface like when it first came out. now the iphone is cingular only with no support for 3rd party apps... the iphone may show the U.S. market that there IS advanced technology out there, but i still think it's a niche market and how many people are going to get rid of their current ipod video for a first gen iphone and have to shell out another $400-600? it's a tough call.

Guys, we should not trash the Iphone. It is still not out yet. For all we know it could be a good product. Sure not as flexible as a smartphone, but hey, it might not be that bad.

Mind you, personally I would never buy it.

Lol, you pay a price premium for the Iphone, yet it's NOT technically advanced, so I don't see your point here.

Or thanking him for continuing the "Razr way of thinking" of style first and forget about the rest. This only continues the trend that people look the design and don't even care of what it does or technicall specs. Btw Iphone is not a smartphone.

I know that this thread is not about iPhone. But I have some comments on it!

I personally do not like iPhone et all. But, I like the 8GB capacity in such a slim phone. However, I hate the closed battery concept I always carry a extra battery when I travel for my Nokia phones to use when & if I ever run outa battery. But having said that no N/E series can extend the memory beyond 2GB at this time. It is real shame to limit to 2Gb when you have 3/5 MP camera for pics & Videos & Music.

There is no doubt that Nokia smart phones are the best in the market today, but iPhone may also offer some good competition, let's wait & see

wow he is contradicting him self!! first saying dont want the n95 cuse of 3g but wants the ipda when it doesnt have 3g.

he is trying to compair ***** to the worlds best steak!

^^^ Then again, keep in mind that some phones just like any other technology you have to dumb it down for the mainstream. Make it "cool, "fashionable" and "user friendly."

Anyone who sees at what you can do with an Ipod knows that you can get better players tech-wise. However they did it with a sense of coolness and people started buying them by the truckload.

You have to give kudos to Mac for that, since they are forcing competitors to think a few things differently. Competition is good.

It's very practical if you have a need to use voice and data simultaneously. It would be nice to forward an email to someone while on the phone. I do a lot of calling...emailing....then calling back with "what do you think" I would really like to have that as a feature. Also, anytime I start surfing if i'm sitting somewhere it seems a call comes in and breaks my connection. It's not always, but many times the web session must be restarted which is a real PITA. 3g is more of a luxury at this point but what a luxury it would be!
