I'm Giving Up On Nokia Until September!

Honestly Nokia is starting to make me very mad with the way they treat their american consumers. I thought that i would never say this, but i am boycotting nokia until they release a phone that would actually do us americans some good. Sure most place in the US doesn't have 3g, but by the end of the year it will be in alot more place. Not only that, they release phones in europe, then 5 or 6 months later they put it on the american website. What is the use of that, it seems to me they like that way americans pay high mark-ups for their phones. They could atleast put a phone like the n95 on the website when it comes out and sell it for $1000.00. Atleast we'd have the warranty, but at this time we don't even get that. Its outrageous in the way they treat us. At first i fell in love with the n95, and i was gonna get it then I thought. Why pay near $1300, or even $800 for a phone when i'll never be able to use US 3g, with somewhat stable firmware, and not have a warranty. So i came up with the conclusion that i would get the iphone, until nokia creates a device that just shatters the competition. And i am a die hard nokia fan till i die. But i think it would be best to skip over everything they make right now, because with the iphones UI, and programs that apple are developing for it. Sure the iphone may not take off spectacularly fast, but its the fact that it looks like it will be one of the best phones ever created. So that only leaves one thing...For nokia to start focusing more on us american, which is what they are doing now if you read there latest press release. They see that its time to come to america with some higher caliber phones, and a truely all in one device. Trust me it will happen sooner or later, then if i'm wrong, by sometime in september, or october the n95 would hopefully be around $600. I honestly believe that it would be best to wait until this years Nokia Open Studio. What do yall think?

Don't get me wrong..I love S60 phones.. but Symbian/WinMo/BBOS etc are not OSX.. They are not desktop OSes are they? And how would a company that makes most of it's money selling hardware for MEDIA audio/video fall short? I would think they have an actual idea of how to correctly put a media device in your hand..

And when did WinMo phones do multitouch? And skinning a WinMo device and saying "its been done" is like me slapping a Bentley hood ornament on my VW and askin what the big deal is about having an actual bentley..

in any case.. I guess we'll see what it can do when it actually launches..But feel free to hate on

As for Nokia in the US.. I blame the carriers... they are desperately holding on to thier precious biz model.. they should be merely bit pipes..and very little else..

condemning the iphone without testing it is as unfair as "outsiders" condemning this latest crop of S60s for their buggy FWs. I'm not interested in the iphone as i dont like touch screens but as a 770/psp style device it's undeniable that it's at least interesting. If someone I know gets one I wont be ashamed to throughly check it out.

So... you're NOT going to buy the N95 because it doesn't have 3G...but you ARE going to buy the iPhone... which also doesn't have 3G... and also has a much weaker feature set next to the N95... is that all right?

Nobody in their right mind is going to pay over $1000 for the N95 unless they really want to be the first kid on the block with one, and as it's looking right now, it'll be out before the iPhone anyway. The initial firmware is going to be buggy, as all first firmwares are, but so will the firmware on the iPhone. Both will come with updates over time.

You'll be back. For sure. Especially when the iPhone disappoints you worse than you've ever imagined.

I just know that their will be a high population of iPhones in suburban areas where girls ages 4-16 live.... hence my reasoning behind not getting the iPhone.

lol, iPhone. What a piece of overpriced junk!
$300 to manufacture, but they'll sell it for $600.
You wanna complain about mark ups, complain about that.
Oh yeah, closed operating system. No 3rd party apps. Woohoo!

2 megapixel camera vs 5 megapixel camera with flash and autofocus
Where's the GPS?

Face it, iPhone is a loser.

This is not only apple's first digital camera experiment... it is their first CELL PHONE experiement! Who knows how crappy the reception is going to be??

I'm VERY happy with my N80ie as my primary phone, however, I, like many of you, really hope Nokia gives the US some love when they announce their next batch of phones. I think we would all love to see some US specific devices with features that match their european brothers -- the N75 IMO is hardly a noble attempt by Nokia to capture any American market share.

As for the iphone, I have no clue what to expect from that. Also, I think it is rather foolish to bash the iphone since it isn't on the market yet and no one really knows how it will perform...in any case, I don't really see myself buying one over a S60 anytime soon, but, like, greenteeth said, I wouldn't be afraid to play with one if I knew someone who had one.

Purchase? What? People buy music?

Yes, weaker feature set. As the stats stand right now, a 2mp camera without autofocus, flash, or video, no third party applications (though if Apple comes through with their own flexible applications for it, this will be quite excusable), no syncing with Outlook, no BT music transfer to and from iTunes, no removable battery, no removable storage, no speed dialing, no voice dialing and no support for Office documents at all. Mind you, this is what we know NOW and is subject to change, but also take into consideration that we DO know the N95's capabilities now as opposed to the floating rumors on the released iPhone spec sheets.

I'll also agree that I am interested in playing with an iPhone, but as a primary device? I can already say no, if only for personal taste because I refuse to use a touchscreen for any text input. If the iPhone comes out exactly as its features are determined right now, then there's no possible way I could do it. I'd lose WAY too much functionality AND too much of my paycheck.

The iPhone is an iPod Mini with a big screen that also makes phone calls, and Creative makes better MP3/video players anyway.

well i could be wrong about this, but isnt this happening primarily because US always has different standards than the rest of the world? even in GSM, they use different frequencies than Europe n Asia etc, i guess same thing is true for 3G!

considering the fact tat the iPhone is Apple's first step into Mobile Phone market there is no way its gonna be perfect unless a revised unit comes out(like the many generations of the ipods)

No, and neither is the iPhone. All of the press on it states it's running a mobile version of OSX, the same way Windows is running a mobile version for their pocket PC's. And even so, the entire subject is based on rumors from the bits people have pieced together. The iPhone certainly doesn't look like it's running any full version of OSX that I've ever seen...

I think you have to blame the American consumer and the phone operators for this one. If Cingular and T-mo USA would offer more Nokia phones, I'm sure Nokia will be more than happy to provide 3G and more american support. The fact is most US customer's carry around a razor and treo's. If you think Nokia is bad, look at Sony Ericsson...most of their phones don't even support the 850mhz band and edge.....so don't blame Nokia, blame the average joe who carries around a razor...

Oh and also Cingular is the one that's delaying the N75...It should have been released already.

I also notice you are with T-Mobile...US 3G isn't even in your vocabulary, or at least it shouldn't be. I most definately am a fanboy, but your arguement was weak anyways; and I just woke up and I'm really not a morning person so...I'l leave you be for now. I may come back to the thread later and have a little fun.

seriously whats the big idea behind 3g. if not everyone have it, to use the video calling features etc. 3g is practically useless. i use my phone just for sms and call AND multimedia stuff. im just happy that n73 can replace my mp3 player, video player and camera.
