I'm Fed Up With 3D Films!

I'm getting annoyed with 3D films now!

At my local Cineworld, there are no less than five 3D films showing this week! I don't mind the odd one of two in a while, but it looks like 'regular' films are being made in 3D either for the extra revenue or to stop piracy!

Up to now, l haven't paid the extra to see a 3D film as l think the effects aren't all that. I will either go to see the 2D version instead if one is showing or wait until the DVD is released.

Does anyone else agree that there are too many 3D films polluting our cinemas now?

Don't watch them then...nobody's forcing you to watch in 3D, like you said: you can either go for a 2D showing or wait for the DVD. Simple.

I kind of agree. More and more films are being made in 3D, and it just feels like a gimmicky rip-off in many cases. What really irritates me is the premium price. You have to pay for the 'experience', and the value is questionable at best.

Okay, so the depth of field is impressive with 3D. Pixar are good at this, and Coraline was excellent. But the picture quality still suffers, looking blurry in some shots and definitely less vibrant and colourful. In fact, most 3D films look really washed out.

But when the 3D effect is done subtely, people complain. The alternative is pure gimmickry like My Bloody Valentine and The Final Destination, with things flying out of the screen at every opportunity. Fine for a theme park ride, but not a good way to make a feature film.

When there's a 3D option available I will usually watch it, but I do so begrudgingly.

I've seen quite a few 3D films. The novelty was okay to start off with, but I actually get a bit of a headache watching them. If there's a choice now i'll go with 2D.

I went to Cineworld to see a preview of Toy Story 3. They weren't showing any previews in 2D, only 3D.

So people can't express an opinion because you're fed up of it?

Who died and made you God? You knew what the post would be about from the subject line so why the need to come in and shout the OP down like it's your way or the highway?

As consumers, even just potential ones, people are fully entitled to complain if something's bothering them.

I think this poster has difficulty understanding the whole concept of opinions and people's right to have ones which differ from his/her own...and the right to express them.

Or it's just a maturity issue!

Either way, maybe a forum isn't the right place for them!

I haven't seen any films in 3D yet because I can't see how it can make a film better. Toy Story 3, for example, is a nigh on perfect film, so how would knowing that some things are nearer and some things are further away improve it? It wouldn't make the script funnier, it surely wouldn't make the ending more poignant. Maybe it heightens the tension during the incinerator scene? But it's already quite tense enough thanks to the brilliant pacing of the screenplay.

I just don't see the logic of imposing an extra dimension on to a medium unless it adRAB to the quality of the works that are produced. Would the Mona Lisa be a better painting if her nose and boobs stuck out from the canvas?

Im fed up with 3D too. My local Cineworld only has 6 screens so sometimes there are no 2D showings of a film at all. We travelled 25 miles to another town to watch Toy Story 3 as there were no 2D screenings. Like a previous post I couldnt see what 3D would have added to TS3. It was packed out so there are plenty of people who want to see films in 2D.

I'm bored of 3D films. The amount of 3D films coming out between now and the end of the year is ridiculous. Every trailer I saw for them left me asking the same question. Why is this film in 3D?

I've never read or seen any reviews where it's said an actor's performance was poor because it was in 2D and would have been better in 3D. I've never read or seen a review that has said Toy Story 3, Shrek 4, were unfunny because they are in 2D,
That last one is an key one. The next time you go to the cinema and see the trailer for Dispicable Me or something that is supposedly an comedy pay attention to the jokes. How many of them are only funny in 3D. Or to put it another way if it weren't for the 3D process the joke couldn't be achieved. I can't think of any that I've seen. Obviously dialogue doesn't require 3D and I can't think of any visual jokes in films that relied on 3D to work.

3D doesn't improve acting performances, dialogue or jokes, so it still provides little to an film IMO.
