they take it? I am doing a project for my government class at school and am going to do a project on one of these topics. If i use scripture as some of my defence will it be respected by non believers?

Use it as support for WHY opponents of abortion and stem cell research are against them. Most positions that Christians take are biblically based.

Non-believers will not like those verses, but they will know why we believe killing babies is bad.

Go ahead and use scriptures. If your teacher squawks about mentioning the Bible in class, you can sue her.

ignorance is bliss, that is what non-believers will say, however, use the scriptures in your defense anyway

Your argument would lack substance. Because you are practically only saying that fetus' shouldn't be killed. They can argue there are ways to get stem cells without using fetus', they use bone marrow which has stem cells, but they aren't as good as fetus stem cells.

As an atheist, I can tell you no, that doesn't work. They will one, not respect it, two, there is a separation of church and state so your arguments should not be on the grounds of religions. Not to say that some people don't try. However, using scripture is not a strong argument. I mean, if I told you Zeus said yes to all of this stuff would you take me seriously? Well that's how they are going to feel. You need to use things that will get them without being religious. There is a famous scientist who discovered the cause of both down's and Cru de Chat's syndrome named Jérôme Lejeune and he made some arguments against abortion based on science. You might want to look him up. Anyways, hope this helped.

Three words.... Goverment, Class, and School.

There is supposed to be a seperation of church and state. Biblical reasons have no place in a legal debate at school.

Because our government is secular, it's only use for religion is to curry favor out of a portion of the populace when "election time" comes around....other than that, religion has no place in our government, no matter what the fundamentalists say about it

No, simply because they don't believe your book was inspired by the deity it claims to have been inspired by, and that it instead was written by people from many centuries ago who had no understanding of biology and who's morals were quite different than that of today.

Doubtful. I used scripture to argue for euthanasia during a debate and only the professor appreciated it. The christians were displeased and the non-christians were laughing at the displeasure of their comrades.

Depends on who they are, but I doubt it.

Scripture can, however, make a good intro point or ending quote. You can still get a point across, without hinging an arguement on something some will just regard as false anyway.

They will probably reject it, but that would be the very reason I used it, because God does not support everything man does. Non-believers don't respect God or His word, but I would still sow the seed. Who knows who you may reach with the truth.

No. It will not be respected at all, or treated as a proper argument. The Bible is not treated as infallible truth, and will not be treated as a true source, like an article or text that actually has some truthful research to back it up.

No it will not. It is not even accepted on here.
You do not have to be religious to know that abortion kills a baby. The thing that divides pro life and pro abortion is that some people believe that a baby is not a baby until it is born.

It suck its thumb, hears you, stretches and dreams before it is born. The only thing that it does not do is breath air.
