If California votes yes on Prop 8, it will be considered a shameful time in history.

at the federal level

this is a state matter

no same sex marriage is recognized under federal law due to the defense of marriage act of 1996

fair enough, its not recognized at the federal level

but whats the arguement against gays using the term "marriage" other than trying to separate gays from straights.

i voted no, but if i could have my say the government shouldnt recognize any marriage and instead have just domestic partnerships. if you want to get maried in the eyes of your religion and your respected god then so be it, you can at your church/synagogue/whatever of choice.

but that wouldnt fly with a strong majority of america

you present a compelling arguement as well. Shall we exchange numbers and discuss this in a more gentlemanly manner or shall I dismiss these thoughts of pleasantry and draw my sword immediately?

you're right government should not be involved.

i abstained from voting on this measure, as it is within the rights of california state voters to propose proposition 8 as is. if they want it, they get it.

they would be better off if the state government had no powers to regulate the issue of marriage licenses

-being gay and gay marriage are morally wrong
-sets bad examples for kids
-what's next? people should legally be able to marry farm animals?
