I was shot a few months ago

A few months ago i was hanging out with my friends drinking at a local bar on a Friday night. We were getting ready to leave when a friend got into an altercation in the parking lot down the st, long story short the guy pulled out a gun, as i was attempting to cover myself with my arm one shot went threw my hand. At first it felt like i put my hand on the stove, it felt incredibly hot and then the pain started to set in...the bleeding wasn't as bad as i had expected (if you can expect being shot that is?) I personally am not a fan of emergency rooms or doctors. I'm extremely frightened of them and dont trust them. I took of my shirt and applied pressure while my friend drove us to his house. When we got there we went to the garage and started washing the wound in the sink with rubbing alcohol and warm water. The bullet was i assume a small caliber because it the hole was no larger then a dime. Longer story short i kept pressure on it for about a week and used powder blood clotting stuff i found in my first aid kit on it. It has mostly scabbed up, but i still sometimes loose feeling in my hand from time to time. It could be fine for days, then for an hour or two be completely numb. Other then that no obvious problems, no drainage, its not warm to the touch, and there isent too much pain. Is the numbing sensation nerve damage? Do nerves "grow" back? or is this permanent?

You will never know unless you get an x-ray to see how much internal damage was done. Did you not want to go to an ER at the time it happened because it would involve the police? Well now that it is healing and you just want to know now what you need to do or not do you will need to go see a doctor...even better a hand specialist. Just say you accidentally shot yourself days ago while you were learning how to use a gun and you were too far away to get to a doctor but now you just want to know what is happening...all might be just fine or you might need some specialized hand exercises or some minor surgery ...you could of damaged a ligament or tendon of some sort. Who knows unless you have an x-ray. Good luck

Thank you Ann, Yes..part of the reason i did not go the ER was because i did not want to get the police involved. I was considering what you suggested...Making a doctors appointment and saying i accidentally shot myself while camping in the woods and was unable to seek help. Will my doctor likely still notify the police? I'm not a criminal..I just know the person who shot me and he is an extremely violent person and i have a 3 month old and a wife. I would rather not put them in danger.
