I want to make a ported box for my...?

Two 15" Kicker L7's....
I have a regular, fiberglass box, currently.
But i had an idea, of making the box....Clear.
So you could see inside. But I don't know what type of material to use, and how much it will affect the sound quality. I have an 8cubic foot box with both my L7's now, and its about 5/8th's of an inch thick.
what should I use to make it sound similar, and what materials?
They're a dark gray color, with a black border, and they're square. So i wanted to put some neons hidden, maybe with a bit more.
any ideas?

well my boyfriend wants the same effect with the clear box and neons... so im trying to see if acrylic sheets would work.. maybe look into that.. but im not finding much info on it.
