edit. used, cheap as i can go,(not basket case) I very much enjoy working on them, but not to the extent off constantly tightening a rattlin' harley!

Bro this is upon u to decide whether u have to buy a kawasaki or a honda...The things that u should note before buying a bike(in the touring category) is the comfortable sitting position as you will have to ride the bike for hours(if u r touring). The next thing is the engine(for a 1000cc bike honda makes the best engines. They r smooth like butter).still i would suggest u to survey both the manufacturers ie.Honda as well as Kawasaki
Both the companies r from japanese origin so their bikes in 1000cc category r well equipped fuel injected, chip tuned etc...So search your way on till u find the perfect bike ...

Are you an experienced rider? if so, plenty of good/great machines out there. Consider Yamaha's FJR, BMW's 1200RT, Honda' ST1300, Kawasaki's Concours, BMW's 1200GT; Triumph also make good sport-touring machines. Look for a lighter bike as weight is often detrimental in handling at low speeds. The rest is up to you; comfort is a must on long distance touring as well as ergonomics. All of these have their + / -; go to motorcycle.com and they will inform you best with their excellent critiques.
