I have just moved in to a new house with a west facing garden, the house had been unoccupied for a little while and when I moved in the back and front lawns where sitting at about 2 foot high, after chopping away at it, I found there to be very little grass and a lot of moss/weeds, I have raked out the majority of moss and planted new grass seeds maybe a month ago.
my issue now is that the weeds are far out growing the grass and i don't want to cut the lawn yet, for fear of harming the new grass seedlings.
this problem is compounded by the fact that there is huge cracks all over the garden presumably made by neighbours' trees preventing the lawn from holding any water at all (literally, we had a huge downpour and the next morning the ground was solid as rock again).
i am really at a loss as to what i can do to help this garden, I am willing to be patient and am expecting that I will not get a quality lawn until at least next season.
just some advice on the drainage problem and the weed/moss that's remaining would be much appreciated. Thanks
