I must leave BEV - how can I reduce cancellation fee?

If the EV tech comes and is unable to obtain signal (which would be good for you if you want to go) have him call EV and advise them. They would have to waive off the early termination fee. I would also request that he puts the info in written with his tech ID number (U1234) and the name of the compagny he works for (you may want to pre-write the form so that he'll be more willing to do it), if EV later on disputes the early termination fee you will have the document to fax them

If the tech comes and is able to obtian a signal over 70% and you still want to cancel they will charge you early termination fee... I belive the calculation is minimum service per month (31$ Digital standard) X number of months left in the contract. That's for the programming part... I also somewhere heard that they over 100$ for programming charges, but i'm not sure about that... They will also charge you I belive 99$ for the break of the rental contract

I tried getting through to BEV this morning and huge line up on the phone. I am moving shortly to the US thus I won't be able to have BEV.

I signed up originally for 24month contract and currently in the first year.

I also purchased the 9200 under the promotion of basically 50percent in programming credits from the price of the receiver. ($250)

Question: will I just be charged the $200 or $250 cancellation fee?

Tell them you are taking a 60 month job contract in Nunavit and your accomodations do not have power. Got me out of contract with Sympatislow

Isn't that why everyone cancels though? You've switched providers, or can't afford it, or you've moved. If all of these were valid reasons for breaking your contract, Bell wouldn't even bother with contracts!!

There are dozens of MDU's (Apartments) in the GTA and beyond that have a Dish on the roof and from there what is referred to as a "Backbone System".

90% of them are 91 degrees ONLY as the cost for the additional equipment is prohibitive.

That's why I've been saying that if the technician goes to the client's house when he moves (which is free) and he founds out there is no line of sight he would call in at BEV and we will terminate the account RIGHT AWAY!

What part did you not get?

Yeah, I'll call them up for the cancellation request... Shaw is giving me a free HDPVR in change of a bell receiver; might be the time to change back

Excuse me BUT, as I have invested well over $2000 in Express VU receivers, I most certainly WOULD look for a suitable location for the Dish, when looking at a new house.

If there was some question of a suitable location being found, or clarification being required, you can then call Express Vu, who could arrange for a Site Survey to be carried out, at a cost of $75. That would be a small price to pay for peace of mind.

If no line of sight is possible, you could then follow Agents' suggestions.

I don't use Bell for anything other than television (being in Manitoba, I'm with MTS)... so it's just the satellite TV I'm worried about.

Mozza, didn't you sign a two year contract? It's not Bell's fault you might decide to dis-honour that and move out of line of sight. Bell does allow you to break the contract paying the penalties in the contract. Are you trying to get out of the honest agreement you and Bell signed, eyes wide open?

If that is a blatant lie ... why is it the shareholders of Bell who should pay for YOU breaking the contract you signed? It's not their fault ....

Shaw is coming later on today to pick up my standard satellite receiver in exchange of their HD PVR; should I take the smart card out of it? or should I cal Bell to deactivate that receiver?
The Bell tech will come in on Tuesday to check why the signal loss; hopefully he doesnt get above 70% (which I think he will, I got 80% in my first install) to get rid of BEV once and for all

We are dealing with a company that refuses to believe/trust honest paying customers and penalizes those customers for its own mistakes (and the mistakes of aggressive sales people under pressure from EV.) In this case, EV insisted on doing the installation or penalizing the (potential) customer in spite of the customer's assertion that electricity is not available. That proof is easily obtainable with a call to the local utility. In this case, EV is responsible.

All the customer has to do is tell EV that no hydro is available or satellite installation is not allowed/feasible and ask that the service be discontinued. After that, it is EV's responsibility to either accept the assertion or provide the service in order to fulfill the contract. To do otherwise is the act of an arrogant and oppressive company. If EV wants to pay an installer to verify that the contract cannot be fulfilled, that is their right. In that case, neither the installer or the customer should be penalized. Unfortunately, EV seems to think that customers and/or installers under contract should pay for its mistakes. Again, this is the act of an arrogant, oppressive company.

How doyou expect Bell Express Vu to know witch building owner forbids Express Vu?

And what's the big deal about requesting a letter and faxing it to Express Vu After all, as Sensual Poet mentionned previously YOU SIGNED A CONTRACT. It's not Bell Express Vu's fault that you moved in a building not allowing it!

it's illegal because you are getting credit under a name that is not your own. if you didn't pay your bills there would be no way for a company to collect the monies you owe them. Thus it is fraud. Plain and simple.

Nem, who really didn't think he'd have to explain why it's illegal.

If the charge is applied and for some reason we did not receive the fax, or it got lost we would follow te collection's process

We would send the bills to the last adress indicate on your account, and like Djino says after a certain time (120 days) it would be sent to a collection agency. This would affect your credit rating in the future an if you ask for a credit card or mortgage might cause problems

My advice would be to go on Bell's web site to view your bills until you see it at 0$. Hope you kept a copy of the fax just in case

If you have any problems PM me...

Well, we have to sell this condo first. I would hope the move will be in early November.

If your receiver is a 4100 the card is built in and can not be pulled out. If it's a 3100 I would take the card out, to make sure no one uses it...

I would certainly call EV and tell them I trade in, gave, or sold the receivers for them to deactivate it. That way if the person who takes it at Shaw knows someone that has a EV dish he won't be able to give it to himand for him to view your programming, or order PPV whithout paying

Mozza, here are some answers:
1) 200$ plus 149$ per receiver... (Not a 100% sure there, All In One package have different rules I think. If I have to call retention tonight I will ask and let you know)
2) Letter fom the condo corporation
3) Don't know
4) When we shut off the service (a month after your call) the system automatically sends out boxes. Be sure to give them your new adress if you gonna be at the new adress by that date
