But don't forget they are a Communications Company and as such almost never communicate internally, safer to make two phone calls.

i know your customer service rep. But why is it illegal?????

I PAY MY BILLS ON TIME...no wait i pay 6-12 days IN ADVANCE!!!!!

ps: if its illegal why am i not in jail????

I am a tech 2 level agent... If something like that would have happened I would definetly be aware of it... I've been with the compagny for a little over a year.

Yesterday I called tech 3 for another client and I asked them if a software update could cause issues with the receiver, and if it did in he past... Answer:NO!!!

hmmm not really...i know a buddy that is a higher up at futureshop & gives me IRD's without signing a contract.

If you live in BC or Alberta he can hook you up with 4100's for $60, 3100's for $85, 3200 Dual Tuner for $125, 5900 PVR for $225, 6000 HD for $200. He doesn't sell the 5200 Dual Tuner cuz he says it sucks. The 9200 HD Dual Tuner is expensive though its like $600 because he only has limited amounts. Another thing he doesn't ship you must pick it up.

Well if a certain amount of "time" passed where they did not receive payment and no credit was applied (to zero your cancellation fee), then the account would eventually goto collections I would assume

Merve04: The Service your condo has is likely "ExpessVu for condos". They don't have a dish, the signal is received via VDSL and it uses a different type of receiver which doesn't permit HDTV or interactive services.

We all ave to wait for the mass deployment of ADSL2+ and Fibre so that we can have real HDTV into our homes.

I believe it is technically as follows:

If you break the contract, then you pay the cancelation fees.

If EV breaks the contract (for example because they cannot provide you service due to line of sight or location restrictions) then there is no penalty obviously.

Any updates on this? Chances are that I'll be moving out of my current condo building (which allows dishes) into a building that doesn't allow. What sort of documentation would I require to prove it? Also, will this waive all cancellation fees, including receiver rental? I've been with BEV since the beginning of May, so I'm assuming I'd have to pay them full price on the 6-month, half price promo anyways?

Also, what's to prevent people taking advantage of this? Say, claiming they are moving, come up with some bogus documentation, and not actually moving?

Well you don't just call them and tell them, You inform them that you have moved.

When I moved I was not aware the new location did not allow BEV. When they came to install and where denied access to the apartment they cancelled my accout/contract because it was not available. Most times they have information already telling them which address/apartments do not allow BEV.

I am talking about ligitamte people that want to keep there contract but can't. I am not saying lie to get out of a contract.

Same goes with internet. They punch in your new address and it will inform them that it is not available.

My father moved north where bell does not offer high speed, because they could not provide the service his contract was cancelled. Although he really wants high speed.

if someone don't have a contract with xvu, and wants to switch to star choice, will they pay a cancellation fee? Or if I pretend that i am out of work and i have to look of my payment thing....will i'll still pay for a cancellation fee?

Why again to send an installer if jhe knows ahead he can not have the service? All he need to do is send in a fax from the corporation of the comdominium unit where he moves stating he can not have the service. The charges will then be cancelled. Preferably he should do that as soon as he gets an answer

When is the move planned?

Yes have them get Bell to install a "Master Dish" on the roof that feeds the whole building. They use the same wiring system as the Cable TV and Bell's service is piggybacked on the same coax line so no rewiring of the building is necessary. This way everyone in the buiding will have a choice of Bell or Cable.

Okay.

So it looks like we'll probably be moving into a condo building that does not allow dishes to be put up at all. I've been with BEV since the beginning of May, and I'm renting a 6100. I was on the half-price for 6 months promo. I'll probably be moving in November, so I'll need to cancel in October.

Can you answer me the following questions (if possible, please):

1. What fees would I be subject to normally?
2. What proof do I need to show BEV I can't just move my dish and service?
3. Do they contact the condo corporation after the letter is faxed?
4. How do I return my equipment?

I am stating FACTS girl.

How do you work out that you are right in this case, HE HAD NO ******* HYDRO.......

If you took time to actually READ the entire post that you responded to you would have seen in Black & White, that he refered to a location with no Hydro.

Good God, no wonder you damned CSR's keep booking calls on Island without Hydro, you are clueless.

I hate to say it but that Level 3 should be out cleaning the streets, he has no idea what he is talking about.

It is the firmware that makes a receiver do the things it does, of course bad firm can and does have an effect on a receiver.

Last year there were two versions of firmware in the Datastream for 3100's, one was fine, the other was corrupt, we ended up with over 1800 receivers back in our office that ALL had to go back to NESA, because they picked up the wrong Firmware.

I deal with people pretty high up within Express Vu and even they denied it was possible, however after inviting them to our office and physically downloading firmware on 4 receivers, 3 of them took the wrong one, they realized we had a problem with the Datastream.

Within 4 hours, the second version of firmware disappeared from the Datastream.

At no time did they admit fault, at no time did they say it was bad firmware but there were too many facts that could not be ignored.

They lie directly to our faces, so of course they will lie to you as a CSR and of course they will lie to Customers, they are trying to protect their own little empires......

I would call the EV installation department and ask them to provide you with service. The installation is free under the move program. If they can't install a dish (which is up to them) or don't provide alternate service (such as EV for condos or IPTV), they are the ones breaking the contract. If they still don't cancel your contract without charge, contact the CRTC or file a counter claim (including all costs) in small claims court.

BTW, it is against CRTC policy for landlords not to allow alternate TV service where it is technically feasible. Since you are a renter, the law is on your side.
