...responses.? I TRUST IT WILL DO BETTER HERE, BUT PLEASE REFRAIN FROM SMUG REMARKS, THIS ONLY SHOWS YOU'RE IGNORANCE. IF YOU CAN'T MAKE A POSITIVE CONTRIBUTION TO MY POSTING, PLEASE DO NOT BOTHER. THESE ARE OUR PARENTS AND GRANDPARENTS IM WRITING ABOUT.

Please read the following and tell me what you think.?

Why you think Government's in American and the UK treat our elderly people so badly. BELOW ARE PENSION FACTS IN THE UK.

a.. The British state pension link with average earnings was broken in 1980.

Had the link remained, today's state pension for single pensioners would now be worth £145.15 a week rather than £90.70.

b.. By the time the link is restored by the government in 2012, millions of today's pensioners will have already died.

c.. The national insurance fund currently has a surplus balance of £46bn.

d.. Around 1.8m pensioners do not claim the means-tested Pension Credit, despite being eligible. 1 in 5 UK pensioners, from a 12 million generation live in poverty, with many thousands dying of starvation and cold every year.

Ide like your answers to why you think government's in Britain, and the USA, treat our old people badly. Below are British facts and figures.

I strongly believe that the younger generations should support the old.

Now the question is, how many young people will respond to my posting.

Are the old really dropping dead of starvation in England? Somehow I doubt it. I can tell you that they live quite well here in the US. My parents and in-laws are able to live totally off government funds (social security) and not even touch their life savings. I'm certain my retirement wont be as trouble free.

ALL religions of the world have laid great emphasis on the rights of parents and the duties of children towards them. According to Islamic teachings, to be obedient and to show kindness to parents has been enjoined in the Holy Quran in such a manner as to say that among the noble deeds, to obey parents, treat them respectfully and to show kindness to them is next to worshipping Almighty Allah. The Holy Quran says, "Your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him, and that you be kind to parents. Whether one or both of them attain old age in thy life, say not to them a word of contempt, nor repel them, but address them in terms of honor." - Surah Al Isra (17:23).
According to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), the parents of a certain person arehis Heaven or Hell. What this means is that if a person obeys his parents, attends to their needs and keeps them happy and comfortable, he will attain Paradise. On the other hand, if he is disrespectful and rude to them, offends them by ignoring their needs and feelings or causes them grief in any manner, his place shall be in Hell. In modern times, a trend has arisen whereby when parents come to be seen as a liability because of old age and physical weakness. They are then sent to 'old people's homes'.

"a person is indeed disgraced, who does not earn Paradise by caring for his parents during the life time and old age of his/her parents".

I don't know about the U.K. but in the U.S., baby boomers have been told that Social Security is basically their retirement plan. Now, politicians are saying that the system was never really designed to be anything more than an emergency backup plan. My parents never got that memo, they paid into the system their whole lives and planned all along that they would get what they were promised.

Younger generations better get used to the idea that no government program is going to pay for their retirement. We're going to have to plan for our own retirement.

Older generations who were given promises by the government, yes we should uphold those promises. Going forward, however, all bets are off.

Bro it's production of western culture & govt, so they will have to deal with such idea, the Q is govt, later on, 1st of all why young & settled down couples/ singles can't keep their parents with them.
i explain as ,
in east parents/ old bring us up , spend a lot of money on our education & career , when they are old we give them shelter , food, medicine , money to spend bing a bro/sis , son/daughter etc.........

it was on personal level b/c here govt doesn't do their jowellwel then how about such issues, here in east , pensions are such lower than they can't Singlegle thing such as living / eating !

I believe this mutual support too,
older people supported us to progress
now we must support !

discussing issues is not enough but resolving them one is required !
1.........
combine family system that famiyoungstersers take care of their elders with them separatelyely,

2...........
& other people must donate the welfare cells of old .

3...........
govt reforms , people will have to make govt realize that old ones must get their all citizen rights, there must responsibleble, durable policies, people & media can play good role in it.

Less an answer to the question, but a response to the poster above. The young should support the old because your parents supported you as a child. You could not take care of yourself, so your parents clothed, fed and sheltered you. Likewise, when your parents become too old to work anymore, it is your turn to step up and pay them back.

Why should the young support the old? Why do they have a right to the work and income of the young?

There is a difference between a young person selecting to help someone (charity) and being forced to support someone.

No one has the right to force you to support them.

Edit -----------------
Rahrah: I support my mother now that she can't support herself. But why should I support YOUR mother?
