I give my kid plainer things like brown rice, steamed vegetables, simply cooked meats... nothing overly spiced or sauced. I'd like them to learn to enjoy the taste of the food itself, not the sauce you put on it.
We also do make your own pizzas, quesadillas, homemade bread, homemade pasta, homemade mac and cheese, etc. And to totally break my own rule - curry. My kid likes curry.
Just so long as they're being offered a nutritious and balanced meal, it doesn't have to be fancy.
