i have a kenwood KAC-91520, 1800 watts peak and i am pushing 2 pioneer 12"...

...competitions.? when i am pushing the subs at a higher volume the amp shuts down, if i turn the radio off then turn it back on it'll work at lower volume but when i turn it back up the amp shuts down. No trouble light just shuts down completely would it i do not have enough juice to drive the amp?, and if so if i added a 1.5 cap on would it fix my problem? I also noticed my headlights were almost flashing when i had it at higher volume
 
basically you are killing your battery...its trying to push the amps to your engine and other electronics as well as your amp (thats why the head lights flash..*not enough power to go around*)
also the amp shuts down b/c its not able to equal the out put that your stereo is trying to put out (built in feature most have for a protection/saftey issue)
however before you hook up the cap. upgrade your battery to a higher performance model...capacitors draw a few extra amps off your battery and stores them so your amp never loses the power it needs when the RPMs are low or at idle...putting in the new battery may even help it from cutting out on you...but no promises

also be sure you are NOT running the subs equal to PEAK WATTAGE
have them equal to the RMS WATTAGE otherwise you'll be replacing them 12s pretty soon
 
cap helped me.
im told a high output alternator is the best solution tho.
increase the wire gagues to speakers if they are on the smaller side. also the wires in the box to the subs. make sure amp is set to mono.
this is a very common thing. its easily solved by something simple.
check your gain . if its all the way up , your really killing the amp. if the wire gagues are all nice sized then yep, time for more watts!
 
That's also called clipping. It's when your amp is trying to push out more power than it can. You have 12" competitions that are trying to suck more power than what your amp can push.

Don't get a cap, upgrade your wiring to The Big 3. Helps your overall car, this will explain what it does and how to do it. It's a big nice upgrade.
