The Kawasaki GT550 to those who dont know, is similar to the kz spectre. Mine has the standard dual calipier system on the front which is constantly giving me greaf.
The pads on the left wear out quicker than the right. The presure at the lever isnt very amazing and bleeding them - well i go through gallons of brake fluid only to get the same result.
I feel its a waist of time stripping the calipiers down and resealing them, as ive done that trick on my Kwak GT750, and it made no improovement and still braked harder on the one side.
So i was thinking, if any one knows a caliper that is a twin pot say a cbr600 calipier, and that i could easily drop on without clearance issues.
Then i could dump this crappy kwacky system in the bin.
Calipiers systems im thinking of are Honda CBR600 ( but i dont know if its a twin or single system) or the Suzuki GS500 calipier.
Im thinking to buy a complete calipier, pads and master cylinder. Then to sort out a hose to the correct length.
update to a newer bike- If the japanese giants made a newer bike to replace the GT550 i would be interested - but they dont.
My GT550 has:
-shaftdrive, all newer ive bikes around 550cc, from what ive seen are chain.
-50mpg, most modern bikes are more thirsty
- four inline engine
- can easily clock up mileages of upto 250tho, mine has done 82thou, recently rebuilt the engine myself to fix oil leaks n install a new camchain.
The things my bike lacks that i wish it had are:
better front brakes, liquid cooled engine and perhaps a bit of a face lift lol.
Thanks to all the positive answers so far. I dont really want to get id of this GT, besides which its worth next to nothing in a trade in as its a 92 with 82thou on the clock. Im the second owner, and since ive had it i have completetly rebuilt it and had the frame n bits powdercoated.
I will try all the suggestions mentioned.
