i dont understand DAB?

can anyone help? i have heard that they are gettin rid of the analogue signal, i want to buy a new car stereo and its quite expensive but hasnt got dab, it can do with an optional ktdb1000 what ever that means, but my question is.... why cant i stick with fm, will i not get any channels once analogue has gone, and when will this happen?
 
we will all have to buy dab, so oyu might as well go for the best you can afford.
