i cant get the ringtones i make to work on my phone?

i have been using itunes to make custom ringtones for my samsung trill and the service provider is ntelos and i cant get none of them to work i have watch videos and read how to do them but they wont work at all they go under my music player instead of ringtones and my phone wont let me set them as ringtones please help
