I can never find the right game....Suggestions?

I hate RPGs (in general) and love RTS games. However, I've always liked the building aspect of RTS a lot and not so much the battles (although I do enjoy a battle or two). So I'm really looking for a game where I could develop an entire country/civilization with some battle mixed in there.

Seems like Civ IV would be a good candidate but then I also like being able to build up and continue building up in different sessions. I'm not sure that Civ IV really does that, and it also seems to hit a wall at some point where you run out of upgrades I guess.

Sim City 4 seems like another good candidate but no battling kinda sucks.

I've always enjoyed the AOE series so maybe I should get AOE3?

Any other good suggestions? It's kinda hard to describe what I like, it's probably a blend between the structure of RTS and the variability of RPGs. Is there some kind of God game or something?

Yeah I've probably played the game a few thousand hours since it came out. I suck and have mostly played against the computer since the online setup is lame and none of my friends play it, but I still have fun.

I get so fucking pissed sometimes but it's fun. At the end it always feels like such a waste of time though. I want a game with less of that feeling...even though it is still a waste of time.

I used to play AOE II on LAN with a bunch of my friends when I was at college, I was talking about this the other day in another thread -- how simple games that are focused on pure fun always end up to be more enjoyable than all the "new popular" games that end up being delayed for years so they devs can include all the latest flashy graphics.

I think the Tribes series is the best example of this....

I've also been waiting for Team Fortress II for what....8 years now? lol.

I think Spore will be the game for you.

AOE3 wasn't what AOE2 was IMO.

AOE2 is still one of my all time favorite games.

I know conventional RTS but I can't really help you with building ones, sorry :0

UI was going to suggest starcraft because everyone loves starcraft but you dont like battles

the best game you've never played. Enemy Nations.

Well maybe best isn't the right word, but its kinda a simcity meets red alert... but its really old. A free download now tho...

check it out, but its not for the masses....

Rise of Nations is a bit of Civ combined with C&C. theres like 12 different time periods and you can win by conquoring or by peacful means
