I purchased a 1988 Kawasaki 300 Bayou & the seller told me it acted like it ran out of gas & would not start back up. The carburetor was gummed up & full of water so I drained & cleaned the tank. I put a rebuild kit in the carburetor & I am getting fire but it still will not start. The battery is dead so I am using the pull start to try & start it but I am just pulling till I just about pass out. Did I waist my money or is there something I am missing? Any help would be appreciated.

That's a pretty old quad but just because it's old that doesn't mean it junk. With something that old the first thing that I would check out is the compression. I'm almost willing to bet that the top end needs to be rebuilt.

Check all the basics.
You need:
Air
Fuel
Compression
Ignition.

Make sure the engine is getting air, it's not blocked or anything.

Make sure the carbs are actually getting fuel.

Make sure the plugs have spark. Replace them if they look fouled.

Run a compression check on it. (Unplug ignition plugs, hook up compression gauge, turn engine over a few times. Google for full proceedure.

Those are your basic checks. Anything wrong with any of those can indicate an alternative problem also.
