...a main course, and ideas? she doesn't like fish or spicy food, and nothing too elaborate please

Does she like steak?

Let 2 steaks sit at room temperature for 30 minutes, sprinkle with coarse salt after 15 minutes.

Heat oven to 350.

Heat an oven-proof frying pan over high heat. Add 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil and heat for 2 minutes. Add the steaks, salt-side down and then sprinkle the now top side with coarse salt. Set a timer for 4 minutes then flip the steaks and set a timer for 3 minutes. Use a pot holder to move the pan to the oven and roast the steaks 4 minutes for medium rare and 6 minutes for medium. Use a pot holder to remove the pan from the oven and remove the steaks from the pan to a plate. Put a pat of butter on each steak and tent loosely with a piece of foil and set the timer for 5 minutes. Move the steaks to individual dinner plates, portion sides and serve.

pasta. you can't go wrong with that. No spagetti or Taglitelli though cos that's quite messy to eat.

Spaghetti and meatballs is kind of traditional for this, and easy to fix.

You can even do the traditional "eat from opposite ends of a strand of spaghetti until your lips meet in the middle" schtick. It's fun!

A little red wine (Chianti or, if you like something sweeter, Lambrusco) and candle light are also traditional.

Just don't overcook the spaghetti! Also, do not rinse it or drizzle oil over it)

If you're somewhat of a novice cook, as your question suggests, you can use canned spaghetti sauce and frozen meatballs. A bagged salad mix can be jazzed up with grated cheese, croutons, a little sliced pepperoni, black olives, or pepperoncini peppers. Or a combination.

Just use low heat when warming the sauce and meatballs, and stir frequently to prevent scorching.

If you want to keep it simple, there's nothing wrong with ice cream for dessert.

I would make loin lamb chops on the grill. Don't overcook them.
Also grill some asparagus and top it with some unflavored yogurt with a squeeze of lemon juice. Rice for a starch.
