It's funny because I've played guitar for over 10 years, and almost all the guitarrists that I like cite Jimi Hendrix as an influence, but for the life of me I cannot get into any of his stuff. I don't like his sound. I don't like his progressions. I don't like his technique. Maybe I'm just missing something.
Don't get me wrong, I respect him a lot as a guitarrist. I think he was awesome and influential and I give him props for doing his own thing. I just don't like listening to his music.
In my opinion there are three classes of music:
1. Music you like to listen to (obviously)
2. Music you don't enjoy listening to but still respect (people that are skilled, respectable, or influential in genres you don't personally like, but whose talent you can't deny, for example)
3. Music you don't like or respect (total shit)
I place Jimi in category 2.
You know what tho, I haven't listened to him in a while. Maybe I'll give it another try this weekend. I feel like there's something wrong with me as a guitarrist because I don't like his music.
So I'm not disagreeing with you that he's good. Now, if this was one of those posts that was like "omg the guy from White Stripes is the best guitarrist evAr!!1!1!1oneone!1!!" then it would be a different story
