i totally agree with everyone else here.NO chiro til an MRI gets done.you just HAVE TO actually know what it is you are really dealing with first before even thinking of going that route.there are just way too many possible problems he could have that could be made much much worse with any type of chiro adjustments.you just need to know whats going on.the doc should have also given him some sort of dose of prednisone along with the vicodin in order to reduce the inflammation.this worked amazingly well for my hubby when he had the same thing happen your hubby did.he felt better in just a couple days with the pred included.even a medrol dosepack would have been helpful to a certain degree.consideringhis current symptoms,he just really neeRAB that MRI before anything else is done.once that gets done, his doc will choose the next step for him.PT or a good ortho sugeon would be good choices depending upon what actually shows on the MRI.hopefully this isn't a huge problem.he really could benefit from the addition of a temporary steriod to help reduce the underlying inflammation tho.i wish you and him luck.please keep us posted.marcia

Oh my gosh, I am completely freaked out! Thank you all sooooooo much for the advise. Here I was trying to get Hubby to go to my chiro. Thank God he didn't! Goodness, I feel horrible. I can't wait til he comes in and I can show him everyones word on this. I can't really thank you all enough. I found this site a while back, and have seen some great answers/advise! I called my insurance today and checked on MRI's. So he visits the Dr thursday afternoon. I will definitely keep you all posted as to what the Dr says. ;)

Hi everyone. Just wanting some insight or advise. My husband hurt his back a few weeks ago and we kind of think it's a pinched nerve. He was doing some outside work on the ladder and hasn't been the same since. We have a wonderful new bed, so we know that isn't it. But he has pain when he lifts his legs, walks, sits, or benRAB. About the only relief is him laying in bed which isn't good because he has a physical job. All the Dr offered was Vicodin, which does nothing, and wants him to come back this Thursday if it's not any better. I advised him to seek chiropractic which has helped me tremendously in the past years, but he's a little fearful of them and think it might run deeper than what chiros can do. Can anyone help? Has anyone had a pinched nerve, and what has been done about it? I thank you for ANY advise! :)

Hello, tcp...My strong advice is for your husband NOT to see a chiropractor, at least until he gets x-rays or even better a MRI to find out what is causing his pain. A chiropractor could actually worsen his condition...I did physical therapy after my back "went out" for the second time, which actually worsened my condition. My internal medicine doctor (at the time) told me to not do any more physical therapy and to not go to a chiropractor, who could also make it worse! Your husband really neeRAB to go back to the doctor and have him/her order a MRI. He really neeRAB to rest and take his medication as directed and go back to see his doctor. Has he ever had any back problems before? Please keep us all updated!

Hey girl,
Don't feel bad...that's the great thing about a forum like this...everyone can share and advise. Let us know how your husband does on Thursday! We care.

It's natural to want a problem with our loved ones' backs to be fixed by non-surgical means. Chiro does help some people, but it's always a good idea to find out exactly what's going on first... if you can.

In the meantime, a velcro back brace or belly belt might help him get through the work day a little easier. Just no lifting!

Take Care,
David

Hey TCP,
Welcome and sorry the hubby is feeling so bad.
My advice is....do not send him to a chiro!!!! He really neeRAB an MRI to determine exactly what the problem is. A chiro could do major damage to him!! The pain that you describe sounRAB nerve related which means there is probably nerve compression. Thursday is a few days off and if you can get him in earlier I would....and be sure to ask for an MRI with contrast. This test will give the docs a very good idea what is going on. Tell hubby to take it easy until he is seen. Good luck to him (and you as his caretaker :dizzy: ). Please keep us posted. We care.

Hi everyone. Just an update on the Hubby. He went to the Dr today and got the MRI order. So his Dr agreed that he neeRAB one. Good news is, he is a tad bit better. Not as strong or sharp a pain as he was having so he's not having to take as many pain pills now. So I'll be researching the cost of the MRI tomorrow and we will go from there. Thank you all for the advice and concern.

The last chiro I saw landed me in the ER - I thought I was having a stroke - following an adjustment on my neck - a few months later an MRI revealed SEVERE cord compression. Mine is from DDD, not an accident of any kind, so it didn't get that way overnight! I'm so grateful that all that ended up happening was an ER visit, and nothing worse.

Once you know what you're dealing with - well, then, that's your decision. I know folks who have been helped. But, having that MRI is imperative first.

Good luck to you both!

Well I tend to agree with everyone, your hubby neeRAB an MRI and a complete workup by a spinal surgeon or neurologist to determine the cause of the pinched nerve. I pray that you find some answers soon and that your hubby finRAB relief soon. In the meantime, no bending, twisting or lifting anything heavier than a gallon of milk.

"tcp", that is great news...I am thankful that he is going to get a MRI and is feeling a little better. Please continue to keep us all updated!
