HTC Apache/UT Starcom 6700 Users: WITH or WITHOUT Proxy in the Connection Settings?

I would like to get to the bottom of this:

Should we or should we not be adding proxy to the connection settings?

I am on the verge of re-flashign my AKU just to find out.

So far we know that if you put the proxy settings there--they stick, no matter what, until a hard reset is performed.

Right now, I am able to connect with the proxy entered in the connection settings. I am able to browse anywhere and send and receive MMS without incident. However, Palm Threaded MMS (which is awesome, BTW: PPCGeeks) would not send or receive picture messages. It would fail every time.

Also, which Cricket plan should Apache/6700 users be on? Officially, I think that users have been on the $50 "Cricket Connect" plan (which I am currently on). But wasn't it proven that you can use any plan that offered picture messaging (MMS) and have WAP working?

I'd like to get some feedback before I start re-burning my AKU.

1.) Poxy has to be on.
2.) Palm Threaded Messaging will not send, not because of the proxy but because it came from a gsm phone and for some reason will not work properly on CDMA, i've already talke to luv2chill about this.
3.) MMS will not work just having wap I know this for sure, you have to have MMS on your account in order to send Pictures.

I've been using Palm Threaded SMS forever, and I also worked on getting MMS to work forever. As amoamare said, the program came from a Treo 750v, which is a Cingular phone, so that's probably the cause of all of the MMS problems. After you install Threaded SMS, install ArcSoft again, and your MMS should be routed through there again. If you don't reinstall ArcSoft Composer, you won't be able to receive any MMS.

1.) I'm not disputing you, but there is no web browsing whatsoever using Pocket IE WITHOUT the proxy? I'm just trying to be clear.

2.) I'm sure this has been covered before, but there are registry settings for the the Palm app. I can get it to try to send but it fails. What settings are you guys using in the app versus those in the registry?

3.) What about the OTHER way around: If your account only has picture messaging, can you also do mobile web?

1.) Right, they havent droped the proxy as of yet in my area. They keep turing it off and then back on wich is driving me nuts :(

2.) I have tried everything that i could possibly try, reg edits. Also without the proxy being on they have had it turned off here and back on when it was off damn it was great everything was working with out a problem.

3.) Nope sorry just the Main page will load, all though the google hack might still work i know it used to if you didnt have wap :)

The reason the Palm Threaded MMS won't send is because there is no apparent way to change these two settings:

Port - this neeRAB to be 8080
WSP Header - this neeRAB to include: X-Cricket-MDN=7203665519

In ArcSoft, we have registry settings for these two items, and same goes for the motorola MMS program on the Q. Also, with ArcSoft, we have error logs, which are invaluable, and I learned failures are almost always because of a 403 Unauthorized, because of the WSP header.

Unfortunately GSM phones don't need these settings, so for the time being, we're probably stuck...

-----------------------------------------------------------------

As far as setting the proxy on my 6700, here's what I have been doing:

I always use the same connection for wap and mms, which has a proxy. In order to use the same connection for wap and mms, I add mms.mycricket.com to the exceptions.

Start --> Settings --> Connections tab --> Connections --> Advanced tab --> Exceptions --> Add new URL... --> (type in:) mms.mycricket.com --> Ok --> Ok --> Ok

Now go into your MMS Inbox --> Menu --> scroll down to MMS Configuration --> Servers tab --> tap your MMS server --> Connect via: (Choose same connection you use for wap/internet, which is probably My Work Network)

If that's your phone nuraber after that WSP Header setting, you might want to remove it.

The Google workaround doesn't work if you only have MMS on your account. The second they opened up unrestricted browsing, I was no longer able to browse anywhere, not even with the Google trick. Once I called and upgraded my plan, I was able to get anywhere almost instantly.
