How well versed were the Essenes in Egyptian culture, history and mysticism?

The figure known as jesus probably spent a great deal of time there.

Furthermore, much of the Bible is influenced by Egypt, from Abraham downward. There were also Sumerian influences on Abraham, but that is another story.

So, given that much of the foundation of the Abrahamic religions is Egyptian-based and given that there was no such thing as separation of church-state, what makes anyone think that 'jesus' was trying to start a religion? IOW, what makes you think that 'jesus' was trying to do anything other than overthrow the political system of his place and time (of either establishment or occupiers)?

The figure or figures known as jesus was a political martyr enveloped in a culture of repression and revolution. The likely familiarity of the Essenes with the Egyptian system and a desire to return to it was motivation for much of the revolutionary character of the Essenes. It also accounts for similarities in New Testament with the Book of the Dead, and all jesus's 'lost years' (i.e. he was in Egypt).

How well do you know the events surrounding your Bible?
Mac, it raises and interesting question though. There is actually a great deal of archaeological evidence to support their existence. It remains to be seen whether Christ was one of them, or if he even existed. Could Christ have been a Roman 'plant', to divide and conquer the populace?

Not sure what purpose it would serve for Josephus to 'appease' the Romans in this way.
"While separation of church and state was not a formal doctrine, it was the de facto political setup of the early kingdoms of Israel and Judah"-
