How to Speed Up Android?

I searched and found info about clearing sms and browser cache/history. But I don't really have much of either of those.

I'm rooted on JF 1.51. Any tips to speed up the phone? Maybe deleting startup items if possible? Are there certain programs to stay away from installing that take up a lot of mem...?

Thanks for any input.

i dont want to suggest it to any1, (mainly because i dont want to be held accountable...)

but to speed up my phone i used an app called "open overclocker."

"overclocking" my phone speed up the phone and it runs alot faster.....

Based on my own experience, it has no affect on the battery life at all. Default clock speeds and accelerated speeds experience battery drain at the same pace. If there is any affect, it's a small one!

Disclaimer: Your mileage may vary.

i set mine at 528 high and 128 low . 128 to save battery when its not being used . works great . has anyone tried the new overclock widget available on the market ? i downloaded it , but i only use it as a widget to see my processor speed without opening open overclocker . anyone tried setting their cpu with it ?

Just installed it and set to 528 max/min.

Will try for a few days and see how much it affects the battery life.
So far I see a noticeable performance improvement especially panning around a large website.

I used setcpu and set it to 528/128 and don't really see an improvement... Any other ideas besides overclocking and clearing sms, browser cache?

Anyone know how to delete apps from starting up? Maybe that might work...

Well, based on your other post... define "sluggish."

Give us some added details as to what exactly is running slow, choppy, or not behaving as you would have thought.

P.S. Setting the Cpu's minimum speed to less than stock wouldn't render anything that I would consider "improvement."

I figured if I lower the cpu speed to 128 for idle, it woudn't affect performance because you're not using it when its idle...

Also, the biggest parts that are "sluggish" are the virtual keyboard when typing and the browser (opening the browser, and rendering, even though I'm on wifi). Are there any known programs to stay away from that substantially slow down Android...? I'm also running apps2sd (but that shouldn't matter for the browser..)

Well, the browser... well, it sucks! I don't think there's much you're going to be able to do about that except for replace the browser.

As I don't use the virtual keyboard, I can't comment on that -- but while we're discussing it, does it have any settings you can adjust? Perhaps sensitivity and/or delay settings?

CPU SPEEDS
In terms of 128/528, my thoughts are this... when your phone is idle, it's going to operate as such, so I don't think (might be wrong) you're gaining much by throttling it back more. On the flip-side, I haven't noticed speeding it up to negatively affect my battery life, so I can't see much of a reason not to set them both to the same number. Especially since the speeds aren't "idle" and "active." If you set the speeds to 128/528, the phone can operate at any speed within that range based upon need. So, even if you set the max speeds to 528, you still could be operating routinely in the 300-400 mhz range.

Rather than trust me or anyone else, you could always try it yourself. Setting it back to 528/128 would take you all of 2 seconds if you don't see increased performance or if you experienced decreased battery life, right? And you're currently on a fishing quest to speed up Android, correct?

Just thinkin' out loud here.

honestly , i have tried both setting . there really isnt a difference . i just figured setting the low end lower to maybe save on battery . but , either way , battery sucks . the only way i found to save on battery is to not use the phone because i use it way to much ( maybe thats why the battery sucks )
