How to Speed Up Android?

I just did the 528/528. I was afraid to, but Jaceman and LazyGenius have both proven themselves to me and their contributions to this thread made me try it. Seems to actually work pretty well. Not huge, but noticeable. Even my videos come out less choppy than before (still choppy, just less than before )

I haven't noticed a difference in battery life rather I throttle back or speed it up, but I do notice differences in performance. When you add all of that up, that is why I keep mine set to 528/528 all of the time. That being said, I stand by my original disclaimer: "Your mileage may vary."

I say that because, for me, it's a no brainer. The cpu is rated for a specificity of 528 mhz, so I don't see it as being overly "dangerous." I notice that setting the min/max values both to 528 renders the best performance, and I haven't noticed a hit (if there as been one, it's been minimal enough that I haven't taken notice) in battery life. I also noticed that when I set the minimum speed to 128 and kept the maximum speed at 528, I did not notice an increase in battery life either, but I did notice less performance than when both were set to 528.

Now, I don't have a cheat code that has unlocked the G1's debug menu allowing me to access "God mode," but I am pleased with where it's at. So, I keep it that way, because I'm the one who has to use it. I'm not making promises to anyone that they will observe the same findings I have, which is why I think that if they aren't afraid of the risk of "overclocking" that they should play around with the settings and find out what works best for THEM and not worry about what works best for JaceMan or DaYuMu.

My 2 cents!

I'll take your recommendation JaceMan and check it out later today. Thanks!

Also, are there any known "memory hog" apps out there to stay away from/uninstall?

make sure to reboot before using, u kno just to make sure uve cleaned up

I'm not rooted, just did the manual Cupcake update, but the Steel beta has been working just fine.

Can you make Steel the default browser (so if you click a link in an email, it opens Steel instead of regular browser?)

I hate to get off topic but this thread is really active right now. Can you please answer the following:
How do you copy/paste from an email that you are reading and from a website? Thanks

well we are talking about speed. so lets reinstate that 528/528 works great
and browser speed seems a bit better.

and yes u can set it as ur default but idk if itll actually do everything on it ( like an email link ). havent really made any other browser my default

crashdamage any input on this?

This OT here, but...you asked...

Long press the link in the email, check 'Make this the default for this operation', select Steel. Done.

I don't think you can copy/paste from an email, not with K-9 anyway. From a webpage in Steel, you can copy/paste a link by a long-press on the link, a chooser will pop up with 5 choices: '-' (zoom out) 'Share' (touch to email link) 'Copy' (touch to copy) 'Open' (choose app) and '+' (zoom in). Nice. But no way I'm aware of to copy/paste ordinary text.

Even so, Steel is my #1 browser. Much better UI than the stock browser. Also better bookmark handling. auto-empties the cache, etc. I only use the stock browser now for secure (https) websites. Steel too often doesn't work for those.

Link me up if u can please
I'm on the phone

Oh yeah I forgot to mention..if u guys still want to stickto the default browser and want to speed it up a bit go to settings and disable the Java on it. Unless u need it. I even take off the image loading. Sometimes

Taskiller can be used to stop programs after boot, I also used this to find that widgets were slowing my phone considerably. I have cyanogenmod installed, and had 3 widgets installed. Once I removed them all, my phone returned to it's previous speed. Now with the open overclock, we'll see if it does even better.

but yet still relevant

How to speed up android:
- root and install a faster rom (cyanogen is my preference but i'm biased)
- a task killer (TasKiller is my preference for the widgets)
-use less widgets
- overclock your phone
